Actors don't have to retire, but they should play roles that better suit them and/or their talent. Her co-star, Greg Kinnear is a couple years older...so should he retire too? I think your comment reveals some sexism...just sayin'.
If SJP "retires", it should not be due to her age or looks - when we're 48, I'm sure we won't feel that old and beauty is subjective, while "character" actors are always needed in the industry. It should be based on her lack of acting talent. To me, it seems that she continues to play the same character.
