I like Auction Hunters, but they seem to pack a lot of very collectible items into their shows and it skews the way these auctions really work.

(Even though they place a disclaimer at the beginning of the show, it makes it seem like every unit has amazing treasures in it and that's just not the case)

However, if you're an eBay seller or someone who has an easy way to move a lot of merchandise, (craigslist) you can make money just on the sheer volume and then the collectibles are the high-profit icing on the cake.

Have any of you ever been to a locker auction?I have.I used to go a lot of them, but I got tired clearing out junk.I have sold a lot of stuff over the net,but I think these locker auctions are a lousy place to find stuff.
Instead of a disclaimer,I think they should do a show where they show you an average locker auction.
I like to equate these locker auctions with me going over to someone's house, mowing their lawn, and I pay them instead of them paying me.You are doing their job-cleaning out the lockers, and on top of that you are paying them to do it.
If you are planning to go to an auction, bring lots of cash, there are people with deep pockets at these things.
While the reasons vary why people lose lose their lockers and they go up for auction,I like to think the main reason is people get tired of paying rent to store worthless junk.
Another thing about these shows,I'm amazed at how often find guns in lockers.
I bought lots of lockers, and I never found any-and they get thoroughly searched.

BTW,at the place where I got a locker, every auction they have they try to auction off the same huge mobile home they have at their place. If you go there you can buy it for $1.This home has been up for sale at every auction for years now.You can guess why it's never been bought. For starters it would cost $800+
just to move it off the lot.

Absolutely perfect summary of how these storage unit auctions operate.
