100 things I learned about storage auctions/units from this show

I love the show. No complaints but these are things I always notice by watching this show. Please add to the list if you could-

1. All storage units contain a vintage gun

2. 99% of items in a unit are worthless junk. The other 1% is worth thousands of dollars.

3. Every city has 1 villain that always buys all of the units until these 2 guys come to town.

4. When negotiating a price with a potential buyer, it is best to be sarcastic and demeaning and that will make them whip out their wallet.

5. When getting an item looked at by an expert, the expert always has thousands of dollars in hand to buy that item.

6. Every unit has old machinery or automobile which will definitely start up when tested.

7. Every unit has a cultural piece that represents the area.

8. Every auction has 2 people bidding and 100 others just standing around

9. Bid high to drop the unit on your opponent

10. When cleaning out a unit, go ahead and toss stuff down the hall.

11. People give mean looks to outsiders

Everything that Allan and Ton find are guy's items! Guns, tools, car stuff, vehicles, sporting goods, etc. They virtually never find women's clothing, accessories, hair driers, and other girly stuff. If you go to storage auctions, you see plenty of that stuff too.

The guns that these two find are almost always extremely rare and desirable examples rarely seen outside of museums or advanced collections.

The people who they ask for appraisals are often either sellers or just the users of such equipment. When you see how much they pay for these used items you have to laugh out loud. Why would someone who sells new equipment for a living buy well used items for 65% of it's retail value?

12. Always tell the expert appraising your item that they are wrong and the item is worth $5000 more then they appraised it for.

Do you ever watch the show from the start? There's a disclaimer that says that Allen and Ton go to hundreds of storage auctions a year, and the ones you see on TV show the best of their finds! I don't think too many people would continue to watch if they showed them buying crap and losing money every week. They do show them getting burned once in a while, but they know it's more enjoyable for the audience to see them find cool stuff that's worth some bucks!

Yes it's amazing that people with $1000s worth of valuables in their storage let it get sold because they are a couple of hundred in arrears on storage rent. Still I do like the stuff they put in those storage units:)

OP
Have you ever been to a auction?

I know the List is suppose to be funny....

8. Every auction has 2 people bidding and 100 others just standing around
this happens a lot, more than you think, and those with money are almost always in on that bid

I go to auctions, not storage auctions but farm sales and other types

and there are 4 types of people at auctions

those who show up and dont buy, amounts to more than half of the people

those who bid on everything, even if they dont win

those who win a ton of stuff for a dollar

those who buy to make a profit
