Joe Pesci?

Why is one character's named Joe Pesci? Did the real Joe Pesci know these guys? Or is it just a common name?

reply

That character is based on the real Joe Pesci, so do answer your question Yes, the real Joe Pesci knew these guys.

Men speak conveniently of love when it serves their purpose.

The real Joe Pesci know the guys, but when I think of his name I think of him from the movies Home Alone and Home Alone II: Lost in New York, and it doesn't say how he came to met them. And I am not sure if Pesci is a common name like you know how the names Williams is for an example.

reply

He met them because they grew up near each other in New Jersey, long before he was anybody important.

Tommy dovito was friends with him growing up. After Tommy got bought out from the band he started "working" for Joe in real life doing things for him as Joe wanted to help him out.

Watch Goodfella's and you'll see a completely different side of Joe Pesci. The scene in the back of the bowling ally was my favorite scene.

"The end of the shoelace is called the...IT DOESN'T MATTER!"

Thanks for the movie recommendation I will check it out at some point, but I think it is interesting that his character's name is Tommy DeVito and what is one of the names of the original Four Seasons members.

Before his acting days Joe Pesci was an aspiring singer in clubs which is how he ran into Bob Gaudio. That's something I don't think the movie got across too well. He was more than just a guy working in a bowling alley.

Actually Bob Digardio stated at the very end of the movie," that if not for himself, none of this would have happened." I feel if Joe Pesci had not gone to BD's home & insisted BD go with him that night to hear them sing, then its possible someone else would or could have made it all happen.. Essentially it was ALL of them, a team effort that made it all happen, but did start with Pesci's insistence by dragging BDs butt to hear their vocals. BD is an extremely talented man & I can't take that away from him. JMO

I agree. I think you meant Bob Gaudio. If Joe Pesci hadn't arranged the meeting between Bob Gaudio and Frankie Valli, none of it may have happened for sure! Fate sure did play a part in this band's journey.

reply

I had no idea Joe Pesci was involved with them at all. Interesting!

reply

Isn't it? I didn't know either, until watching this movie.

reply

I also never knew Clint Eastwood directed it until I read this board. Never would have guessed.
