Why does Hollywood push Black Man/White Woman agenda?

Is it because Black Women are not good enough? Almost all the book adaptations change black women to white if they're involved with black men or white guys to black when they interact with white women or set it up that way. It isn't even true to the books. And it doesn't work as well on screen. This is utter racism!

That's racism? If you really feel that way, I have a movie just for you, it's called Gods of Egypt. Almost a entire white cast playing Egyptians.

It works fine if there is a good chemistry between the characters, and I thought there was decent chemistry (albeit not perfect) between Chiwetel and Nicole.

I wouldn't mind seeing more interacial relationships in movies where perhaps the woman is black and man is white cause that's a little more rare.

Also, it's not racism to have interacial relationships in movies, it's quite the opposite, your thread however I can not say the same thing about.

We crash into each other, just so we can feel something.

the only reallly good wf/bm pairing that i can think of that contained a lot of chemistry and which no one seemed to get upset over was in the uk series "luther" with idris elba and ruth wilson.

you think bf/wm is rarer than wf/bm? i get the impression that it's the other way around, considering shows like scandal, sleepy hollow, deception, shameless, merlin, lincoln heights, parenthood...etc.

Wow, i was also of the opinion that Black woman/White man was much more uncommon and less accepted than its opposite, but you made a nice list right there to prove your point. You could also add "How to get away with murder" in that list, as it also contains this type of mixed relationship.

Yet for some reason, i can't shake the feeling that a black man and a white woman is less frowned upon... I dunno, maybe it's a false impression.

As far as mixed race relationships go, i find them beautiful. The ability to see beyond what makes us different at first glance is somewhat awe-inspiring in my book when we consider the natural tendency human have to be drawn towards similarity rather than dissemblance. I suppose mixed relationships are a sign that beside the need for conformity and this natural attraction for resemblance, curiosity and empathy are also important components of human nature that drive our behavior.

On another note, i'm naive enough to think that on the long run, mixed race relationships are the solution against racism on a global level, as it is only when we'll all be brown-skinned with slit eyes (and trust me, we will be, it's merely a matter of time) that there won't be any phenotypical differences that separate us and feed racist positions.

I say naive because i trust humans to find always new original and refreshing ways of hating and killing each other beside skin color, such as religion, gender, tradition, politics, social class or sports or based on any other reason we haven't discovered yet. But at least, no "racism" in the literal sense anymore. Just tribalism, regionalism, sexism, nationalism, elitism and religious hatred. HUGH.

Ok, enough rambling.... i guess.

People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefs

You're using Idris Elba as a typical wf/bm pairing....but you can't. The man's a god.
I hope he's the next Bond.

White audiences react better to mixed lead pairings when one of them is a minority and the other is white. They need to be able to "connect" with at least one of thr lead characters. Otherwise it gets perceived and labeled as a "ethnic" movie and studios dont want to pony up big money on those films. Would be the same if the leads were both asian or latino as well.

reply

your thread comes off more racist than the casting decision of this film.......

reply

I agree. It’s ridiculous. Who cares? People fall in love based on the person, I would say. Skin color is superficial. Holly

I know it's crazy we never see the darn reversed and your statement is so factual

I get what you're saying; truth is that Hollywood needs to put black women in leading roles, it's racist at this point. I mean black women can also do love interests to white males, why not? And I mean black dark skinned women not the Halle Barrie's with their light skin complexion. For you're information, I am Hispanic and even I notice the lack of leading black females paired with white males but we see black men chasing white women all the time.

 Maybe...but that does follow the demographic cultural patterns right now. I mean, I have read that, according to the data for the most recent census years, we are at a point where 25% of all African-American males who got married with-in the surveyed time frame were wedding NON-African-American females...with the highest proportion of the brides being caucasian non-hispanic women. That means if you attend 4 wedddings with a black groom involve, the odds will be that at least one of those men will be marrying a white woman. The same statistic for black women is currently 10%...or 1 out of 10.

So, it appears that, at least from an American standpoint, the disparity seen on tv and film at least is matching real life. My understanding about the UK is that these rates are even higher. And, of course those census statistics were just about weddings that occurred with in most recent year....so that doesn't even include cross-racial demographic dating, cohabitation, hook-ups, etc.
