Ray and Jessica? Lovers?

Why did they never hook up and did they say what happen to the daughters father?

no and no, but they should have been the way Ray was pursuing Marzin. it made absolutely no sense for him to be in love with claire, but seeking revenge for Jess' daughter. at least if he was Jess' lover, i'd understand his obsession with vengeance.

I was about to start a new thread with the question, but then came upon yours.

Firstly, even if its a remake, its Hollywood. I find it quite intriguing that Ray and Claire never even share a kiss on-screen[not that peck!] let alone hook up and we've seen worse and better films where the leads hook up in the end... even if its loosely or remotely implied. I don't know how true the film stayed to the original but this anomaly(If I may use the term) did manage to raise my eyebrows.

The reason he wouldn't probably hook up with Jessica is that romantic entanglements is not the center-stage of this film especially since his involvement with Jessica has always been portrayed to be on a platonic level. But then his obsession to find Carolyn's killer made me rethink this. Was it ever subtly implied he may have fathered her? The obsession bit had me stumped the second time. The first being why did he not get together with Claire at least in the end when all seemed fair and there appeared no apparent obligation why Claire would continue to stay with Eric(?) in a seemingly loveless relationship. Why the *beep* introduce that subplot if not see it through to the end?
