The series finale was clearly...

...A "we don't know if the series is cancelled or not so lets do kind of finale thing" episode.

So they let Dallas be mad about George's attitude and left that SL hanging. Tessa and Ryan do the so cliche 'middle of the street of an affluent NY suburb making out and tearing eachothers clothes off' scene. OK, not really clichè. That at least tied that up.

Either way I thought this showed could go a few more seasons. Similar shows show the High School graduate going off the College and getting into shenanigans and then missing their family and then making new besties and then other various stuff. Plus Dalia is/was one of my favorites characters on TV and now her deadpan soliloquies are a thing of the past.

The finale was obviously made out of them being 50/50 sure it was cancelled, but they didn't want to do a full, closed-ended finale just in case.

They tied everything up just enough to suffice as a dull ending if need be, but all the doors were still open for another season.

Personally I couldn't see this show working post high school. Tessa would go to college and she'd no longer be in "suburgatory."

If they did write it with the idea in mind that it would actually be the series finale, that's a really depressing ending for both Dallas and George. I would have much preferred them to reconcile than Ryan and Tessa.

I'm guessing they probably would have made George and Dallas get back together in the later seasons, but they didn't want the "season" finale to reek too much of, "We know we're getting cancelled," so, for whatever reason, left them as the cliffhanger couple. Still bugs me, because I hate Tessa and Ryan together and, oh yeah, they're still only teenagers and poor Dallas and George are still trying to find love at 40-ish.

They should have had the town explode. I believe that every series finale should end with the show's main locale exploding.
