I never understood George's attraction to Dallas

She may be attractive but she is also a self-centered, high maintenance airhead. He could do much better than her.

It was more unidirectional. That's why she broke up with him.

But, she looked really sad when she saw George and Nora. I can't remember why she broke up with him.

It's largely the sitcom's tendency to pair up all single people in sight even if they're not a good fit.

However, in this case, it makes a little more sense if you see it from Tessa's perspective. The series is meant to be told from Tessa's POV. Tessa sees all the Chatswainians as weird and alien and finds it strange that her dad is assimilating
faster than she is. My guess is that Dallas is a little less weird from George's perspective than Tessa and the viewer at home sees her as.

At least she is not an "ML"

Cheryl Hines is miscast. Thats the main reason.

Dallas is supposed to be a 10. A complete knock-out sex kitten. And with all the teeth whitener and Miracle Bras and hair-dye and sexy outfits... she looks about average.

George was supposed to be floored by her beauty and his attraction to her mainly physical. This is why they were always awkward as a couple; these two characters are so polar opposite personality-wise/lifestyle-wise, it makes no sense that they'd be attracted to each other in any way other than just physically.

reply

I think that it works fine with someone who only THINKS they are a "10"

It was Dallas' skylight for Dahlia's room that first catapulted him into being "the Skylight King". That alone makes their relationship more than just physical.

If Dallas were such a knockout, then her little speech at the end of Season Two wouldn't make any sense. If she were such a knockout, he wouldn't need to "learn to love her".

I loved her as Cheryl David - on Curb Your Enthusiasm - but here - not so much.

The orange tan, the age inappropriate clothing, the Chiclet teeth - dear Gawd - the Chiclet teeth.

I tuned in to this because I love a lot of Jeremy Sisto's past stuff - but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to hang in much longer. :-)

I've mentioned her teeth before -- I agree with you. ^^^

Does anyone know if they're real (as in, she's had them veneered?) or is it an appliance, used just for the show, to exaggerate that look?

She has always had large teeth in all the photos I have seen dating back to 2003:

http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1499699968/nm0385644?ref_=nmmi_mi_all_evt_ 250

http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1844353792/nm0385644?ref_=nmmi_mi_all_evt_ 255

and 2004:

http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1678612992/nm0385644?ref_=nmmi_mi_all_evt_ 246

But, there is a noticeable difference in the look in the photo above which is dated June 28, 2004 and this photo dated June 6, 2004:

http://www.starpulse.com/Actresses/Hines,_Cheryl/gallery/AGM-001430/

Maybe it is just the lighting in the second June 6, 2004 photo above because the photo dated 2003 her teeth look very similar to the first June 28, 2004 photo. If the dates on these photos are correct then her teeth have always been prominent but I believe somewhere along the line she had some work done to make them appear straighter and more even which is common in the industry--they just went slightly overboard in trying to make the teeth look even and ended up making them look slightly ridiculous IMO. Again, this is all conjecture on my part and not fact--just opinion.

This is a closeup dated 2012 and it really appears some veneer work was done to even up the side teeth with her already prominent front teeth which makes her appear to be "all teeth":

I see the veneer work. Normal human teeth aren't all the same size or shape. Incisors are the cutting (front) and biting teeth; cuspids are the pointy ones -- and you can always tell -- when they're all the same length and points are "flattened" that there's been work.

So phony. She looks nice in the first photo...

reply

Exactly. She's 10 years or so older than him (the actors) and she looks old too.

I kind of like them together. Dallas kind of reminds me of Lucy Ricardo - sweet and charming and madcap- you never know what she'll do next. Dallas also says some hilarious things, and she's actually different than most of the women in Chatswin. She is never ashamed of her ridiculous inclinations. She's completely unapologetically over-the-top and it's kind of refreshing.

I think George never saw himself and Dallas as a happy-ever-after couple. It was always just a neighbors-with-bedroom-privileges thing for him. She was looking at him and assessing them as partners in a longer term (marrying) sense so she bailed when she admitted to herself that he wasn't nearly as committed.

I'm not saying George was so cold he didn't feel emotions toward Dallas. He was just never going to be her next husband. The guy took the opportunity to sample her goods because choices were relatively limited way out in the sticks (compared to NYC) and they kind of became a habit more than a couple.

She may be attractive but she is also a self-centered, high maintenance airhead.

George wasn't concerned with her "personality" at first, so long as she was clean and had a pulse - so to speak.
He could do much better than her.
They both deserved more AND better than the other was providing which is why it ended. Sometimes a booty call just grows out of hand. One of them had to kill it before it could breed.😨

Eeek!!! I'm getting dressed.
