Why do female heroes have to have female enemys?

It's a real turn off. I don't think it's a written rule anyway and it's bringing back memoires of Halle Berry's Catwoman. I don't want go anywhere near this. Lets hope it tanks and is forgotten about.

Male audiences want heroines to have female adversaries? I doubt that and bet they don't care about that part. :D

reply

I guess the same reason male heroes have mostly male villains. It's largely creators wanting to shy away from a male hero having to physically fight a female or a female hero being beaten by a male villain.

reply

Oh right, that is a good point. Thanks.

reply

It's like in the Batman movies when they brought in Batgirl just for the sake of fighting a female villain. The way the character was forced into the script was so hilarious.

I don't understand why it's a turn off for a female hero to have female villains? For me, when I'm watching a superhero show or movie, I want to see a knock-down-drag-out fight, but I personally don't want to see s guy beating the crap out of a chick.

reply

Because Hollywood has no creativity. Just like Iron Man had two movies about him fighting guys in other Iron Man type suits. They could have put him up against any villian, but had to pick ones similar to him.

I think fictional fights between men and woman who have super powers are cool. Check out the X-men movies and Wolverine doesn't mind kicking the sh*t out of a woman. So vice-versa.

Dean Cain Fan I agree with you, but

Bryan Singer is gay and he sh_ts on any positive heterosexual relationship in any of his comic-related movies, even usual suspect had NO female characters in it. Singer ain't known for showing straight relationships in the brightest of lights. And I was being politically correct calling him gay by the way.

reply

I've been a Bryan Singer fan up until Superman Returns, but shi**ing on any positive heterosexual relationship (in his films) went right over me head ICQPIMP!!! Superman's and Lois Lane's relationship was rubbish in Returns, now it's all starting to make sense, naughty Mr Singer.

are you afraid Wonder Woman will beat the *beep* out of a male?

yeah it feels like it ridiculous why it has to be same sex against each other.

reply

A threats gender is irrelevant. If a snake threatens my life im not gonna check its junk before I chop its freaking head off. And I wont feel bad later to find out it was female, as it had nothing to do with whether it was more or less of a threat.

Well, fighting scenes are one, that's for sure. Films are supposed to have a lot of fighting (especially if superheros involved).

For me, personally, it's not a big problem, if the villain (male or female) is a great villain and a big threat.

I do find it quite hypocritical sometimes that some jewelary thief (male) gets his arm broken by a superhero, while a female villain who killed five people and threatens to destroy the city often doesn't even get slapped.

But, how would YOU react if, for example, next Batman villain is Poison Ivy and Batman punches her like he did the Joker?

Also, Wonder Woman DOES have male villains, starting with Ares and Hades.

I guess they've picked Veronica Cale not only for being a woman, but also cause she has that 'Lex Luthor' vibe on her, which means she's easilly to continue, while most 'crazy' supervillains, when beaten, are imprisoned, which highly prevents them of being show's regulars.

reply

Oh a female Lex Luther is a good idea methinks!!! yeah, it makes sense now. Oh I would feel fine if Batman Punched Poisin Ivy like he did to the Joker in the Dark Knight because she is not a very nice person.

reply

Thanks for agreeing:)

I have ALWAYS wondered why female superheroes ALWAYS had female villains. Actually it shows you what a joke female superheroes are if they HAVE to have female villains. Name one female villain not named Catwoman. Don't give me Poison Ivy either. Uma Thurman's horrible rendition would like to heave a word with you.

reply

[deleted]

Next time Poison Ivy is used in a Bat-movie or TV show, everyone will forget Uma Thurman's.

I'm hoping they use Cheetah and Circe, two great W.W. villains.

Lady Shiva would be good as well.

@welsh pirate: now thats the batman movie i want to see.

reply

because in the real world most women cannot beat up men without martial arts skills.

reply

Giganta, Cheetah, Circe, those are just off the top of my head in the Wonder Woman comic. Moving away into other comics I read, Queen Bee, Shiva, Scandal Savage, Emma Frost, Mystique, Amanda Waller, Plastique, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Emerald Empress, Saturn Queen, Granny Goodness, Amazing Grace, Bernadeth, Stompa, Lashina and onto comics I don't read, Star Sapphire, Fatality, Kryb, Faora, Silver Banshee, Maxima, Cyber Cat, Fright, Jane Doe, Lady Vic, Lynx, Nocturna, Panara, Pix, Roxy Rocket, Sylph, and I'm bored with this now.

I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care.

the same reason male heroes have male enemies??

reply

Yeah, ok what's the reason? (if I'm being rather dim, for the hell of it.) Every time a female hero gets a shot at the big screen (or small) they're always saddled with a female villian. I suppose girl vs girl is alot less serious than a girl vs boy? It's then alot more fun that way, girls in compition with each other and all that. Just reminds me of all those other attempts (Supergirl and Catwoman) which I wish were rubbed out of my memory. This sort of bitching about always is trivial compared to Superman preventing the end of the world and I'm not gonna tune for Catwoman revived. Give me a break and give me something more noble Hollywood!!! he he he...

Male Enemies of Wonder Woman

Ares The God of War
Demimos The God of Terror One of Ares's children
Angle Man
Dr.Psycho He hates women but loves Wonder Woman. Why does he love Wonder Woman?
Egg Fu Yes I'm not kidding a super villain with that name.
Hades
Mouse Man He could shrink himself but still laughable.
