How does disabling the Message Boards enhance customer experience?

Apparently IMDb will be deleting all Message Boards in a few weeks. I am curious how deleting the Message Boards enhances customer experience, as they claim in their statement. If anything, it brings more people to the site, as they are curious about certain movies/shows/talent, and they want to discuss and see people's thoughts on the subject. If people don't like the message board feature, then they can choose not to use it.

IMPORTANT: IMDb is the world’s most popular and authoritative source for movie, TV and celebrity content. As part of our ongoing effort to continually evaluate and enhance the customer experience on IMDb, we have decided to disable IMDb’s message boards on February 20, 2017. This includes the Private Message system. After in-depth discussion and examination, we have concluded that IMDb’s message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide. The decision to retire a long-standing feature was made only after careful consideration and was based on data and traffic.

It doesn't. I think TPTB got sick of the constant reporting and trolling, but instead of ridding the boards of trash (and their multiple accounts) they've decided to pull the plug on the message board feature altogether. Most of the boards are either quiet like this one or overrun by idiots. It's a shame, really.

I wonder if they even read the reports they get or their system works without them "being at the wheel" so to speak. Yesterday I posted on a board that no one has been on for a year or two, but apparently a word I used - but didn't actually spell out - was deemed offensive and today the post is gone. I'm doubtful anyone reported it in that short of a period, but it was already removed. I think their system most pick up on certain words that are typed in and it is automatically removed without the administrator doing anything.

On The View board, they're busy playing the blame game. It's the left's fault! It's the right's fault! It's Donald Trump's fault! It's Papa Smurf's fault!

It's the fault of all who used their anonymity to personally attack posters who disagreed with them. The accusations, the insults, the bullying - just like children on the playground.

Once again, people who respect others and try to follow the rules have to suffer for the actions of a few.

Some posters have said that's the case. It's strange how that whole thing works because sometimes posts that don't break the rules in any way are deleted in no time, but those who blatantly break the rules either take days before their removed or they're not deleted at all. Last year I made a thread about Sharon's outfit and all I said was "I don't know why she wants to look like she's dressed like a Pilgrim for a school play" and in less than an hour, it was deleted. Meanwhile, threads that were rightfully reported and removed are reposted again and again with no consequences. Had the admins. done a better job of regulating the boards and deleting the account(s) of blatant trolls they wouldn't be in this mess.

Agreed.

Just the fact that the title pages aren't updated for years at a time means that someone is not doing their job.

I know I shouldn't be surprised but there are people who really believe that Trump's to blame for the boards shutting down? 

I wanted to add something to what you said last night, pets. Not only are the accusations, insults and bullying found on many boards to blame for the demise of the site, those who either stood by and did nothing or joined in on the nastiness have a part in it as well. If more posters stood up for what's right and shut down that foolishness, we might still have these boards. People will go only as far as you let them and if you don't put your foot down, they'll run you right over. I commend those who did try to stand up, even when the majority attacked them at every turn.
