Quite Surprised...

The Evil Dead making this list was an eye-opener. I mean, sure, it's over-the-top; but, isn't that the point of the Evil Dead? It's so cartoon-ish.

Compared to footage from most other Video Nasties, its inclusion seems completely unfounded.

Did u not see a family movie with dolly Parton and a 6s war movie also made the list ,crazy what went on with thatchers government

A lot of the video nasties are pretty tame when you watch them nowadays, and you wonder what the fuss was about. If anything, the Evil Dead is graphic compared to some of them.

A lot of the video nasties would've been forgotten by now if they weren't on the list. Rather then preventing people from seeing them, it's meant that movies that should've been obscure are remembered decades later by people searching them out. Ironic really.

Wasn't there rumours that The Funhouse was in there by mistake, because they mistook it for another film? Really enjoyable film that, but tame also.

Yeah a lot of films really used the whole video nasties to their advantage. Directors tend to complain when a film gets banned but I feel they actually secretly want it, and wear it like a badge of honour. People will think it must be bad so tend to want to see it. It says a lot about society I suppose. I mean I've never seen it but people apparently thought snuff was real when they went to see it but they still went to see it.

As for evil dead it was probably the tree scene that caused the most issues. And If I remember correctly a film with the name Texas, possibly the best whorehouse in Texas, was banned or considered banned due to the Texas chainsaw massacre

The most telling comment on this documentary is Mary Whitehouse admitting that she hadn't seen any of these movies that she was trying to get banned.

There was also a point made about the fact the film boards had to watch it but others couldn't.

Admittingly when the director tom Six complained about human centipede 2 being heavily edited I did wonder why people would basically make a film that went against the board and then complain when it got banned/edited. I later realised if directors didn't push forward and challenge things we wouldn't have many of the great films we have today and it surely the audience should be able to decide what they want to see. That being said I prefer horror with a meaning, or over the top campness. A lot of newer stuff seems like just torture for the sake of torture.

I also remember apparently someone saying these video nasties where bad for dogs ha
