Why didn't the trolls attack a big city?

I mean they are freaking huge so why didn't they attack bigger targets like a town or the city?

And yeah sunlight, well that's a pretty lame weakness

Because the film stays true to old norse fairytales, and in those the trolls didn't attack towns (probably because they originated and were told in a time when the bulk of the population lived in rural areas). Same for the sun thing.

In Cod we trust.

Gonna try a wild guess here, that this weakness in a fearsome monster was designed to make Norwegians feel better about their abnormal day-night cycles.

I don't know about the sunlight thing, but the trolls can be viewed as a rudiment of the old Norse pre-christian religion. The
big troll in the end has direct references to Norse mythology.
