At least i got to see the damn monster. Also the characters didn't bore me to death.

That's because 'Cloverfield' was a thinly-veiled chick flick.

Some people would prefer not to see the "monster" and let their imagination do the work instead.

eh? but you see the monster in cloverfield. many times.

i was thinking of watching troll hunter, based on the imdb rating but the trailer really put me off. then i looked at the selected quotes on rotten tomatoes and that killed it. terrible. i'm going to pass.

ps i thought cloverfield was excellent.
