The show is about alternate reality from the very beginning of episode 1 season 1, and is based on a science fiction novel by Philip K. Dick about... alternate reality!!!!
I don't understand the people who complain about alternate reality being a Deus ex-machina to rescue the show.
IT IS A SHOW ABOUT ALTERNATE REALITY, DAMN IT!!!!!!
It's just that season one showed less of it (to create suspense) and season two showed more of it.
But the primary topic of the show is alternate reality so if you don't like shows about alternate reality, don't watch it.
It's like saying, after watching a romantic comedy: "I'm outraged that there were elements of romantic comedy in this movie."
