Scallops?

What was up with all the scallops? It seemed as if at every meal, or every other meal, at least one of them was ordering scallops.

Are scallops that popular in the UK, or in the North there? Or was this just a preference of those diners?

I like scallops quite a bit myself, but I do enjoy variety.

Scallops are a staple food in the UK, deep fried in batter is the most popular way to eat them and pickled scallops can be found in every shop. Scallops and chips and scallops on toast are the top selling meals in cafes throughout the UK.

No, he's quite right, the UK is surrounded by water, we are a seafood loving nation. Most folks think of seafood lovers as being closer to Asia with sushi bars and so on, but the UK is exactly the same but with less exotic stuffs.

If the OP is American then he should think of the UK as being like the state of Massachusetts, we have a massive fishing industry due to our surroundings (North Atlantic, North Sea and the English Channel) and so scallops, whelks, crabs, winkles, mussels and countless other aquatic beasties end up on our menu. Hell, our national dish is fish n' chips...

Opinions are just onions with pi in them.

Being surrounded by water doesn't make one a seafood loving nation. Believe me, Americans love scallops just as much as the next guy. America is just as much a seafood loving nation as anyone else.

Scallops are delicious and when you've finished eating them you can use the shells for mermaid bras or ashtrays.
