Morderous attack on the the author?

This was a quite good, entertaining, agreable slow, thrilling, clever film, but ...
did I miss something?
The author thougt twice, that there has been a morderous attack on him (under the shower, when the electric cable was unsecured, and in his car (together with his friend from the police (!)), when the breaks did not work) -
did they ever explain in the film, that there really WAS an attack on him -
or did they want us to think, that, both times, it was just an accident and bad luck?
Did they explain, if this were attacks, who was responsible (the police, the politicians, both)?
And, if the author was sure, that "they" tried to kill him twice (and, in my opinion, he believed in morderous attacks on him), why didn´t he straight leave the town (after being released from the hospital), instead of going to the flat of his police-friend and also talking with this young BMW-guy from the disco and bringing himsef this way in extreme danger, of getting the victim of a third attack, when his enemies must believe, that he ist still investigating?
