Give it a chance

I went to see this on the weekend...by accident. We intended to see Stupid, Crazy, Love but went to the wrong theater and this was the only movie that sounded like something we both would watch. Neither my husband or I had heard of it, so I can say we went in with no expectations. Now, I don't pretend to have the best taste in movies, but I LOVED this. Yes, you can tell it is not a big budget Hollywood movie, but I feel like that just adds to its charm. I hate to say it because I am Canadian, but most of our movies are...not that great. This one is different, it's funny and charming and a great family film. If that doesn't convince you, it's worth it just to see the cameos by Drake and Ludacris.

I'm not Canadian, not Indian, and not a guy, and don't like sports movies. However, I thought it was a sweet film with an uplifting message. It will speak to a certain populace but that doesn't mean other folks won't like it, too.

And the lead actor is a real cutie. He could have a future based on his looks alone!

I saw this earlier today on one of the Showtime channels and I liked it. It wasn't the greatest movie, but it was uplifting.

This was a fun / feel good movie. I live in Vancouver BC where we have a large East Indian community and it was great to see an "ethnic" comedy that wasn't disrespectful. If you get the chance its worth watching. Russell Peters is great as the douche bag brother in law.

I have found lately I take expecations into movies with me and sometimes feel I'm a bit of a snob. Movies like The Cutting Edge or Youngblood just seemed silly back when I was in my 20s. I like sports and most sports films just aren't credible. Even a decent film like Pride of the Yankees is a little painful to watch as Gary Cooper probably didn't know how to play baseball.
(There are a lot of good sports films, like Bull Durham and Slap Shot.)
Anyway, this looks like a cute, fun, unpretentious little movie. The star - Virmani? - Belle and Lowe are all pretty good-looking. I love hockey and thank Mr. Lowe for his support. Still haven't seen Youngblood, and Breakaway was on very late and I didn't expect it, but The Cutting Edge was really charming, and really had no hockey. So I'm looking forward to seeing both Youngblood and Breakaway some day, and everyone's gotta give Slap Shot a chance. Gotta see that again.

I'm not a woman much less Deanna Durbin, but the old-time glam-shot appeals to me.
