What happened to the sequel?

I remember seeing a page for it back in 2014 but now its gone. Does anyone know what happened?

The sequel, now titled "The Huntsman" and starring Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron (without Kristen Stewart), is in pre-production and is due for release sometime in 2016. The screenplay and director is slated to be Frank Darabont.

Yes, it's a prequel, due for April 2016 release.

"Chris Hemsworth will be bringing his character back to the big screen in the upcoming movie The Huntsman, which has been given a release date of April 22, 2016.

The 30-year-old actor will be joined by Charlize Theron for the movie, which will be a prequel to their hit film Snow White and the Huntsman.

According to ComingSoon.net, the movie reveals 'how the fates of two characters, The Huntsman Eric and Ravenna, intersected before they met Snow White,' who was played by Kristen Stewart in the original film."

Just recently its been rumoured that Emily Blunt is in talks to play the evil snow queen aka Ravenna's sister and sadly the director left the project. They should announce a bew director this week. They still want to make the april 2016 release.

If this film makes it anywhere near a soundstage it really will prove that miracles still happen. They don't even have a script yet.

K. Stewart was originally going to be in the sequel, but was dropped after her affair with the director of SW and the Huntsman.

THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER'S WAR is essentially a spinoff which explores some of his backstory, but mostly what became of him after SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN. Queen Snow White is referenced, but only seen one time from the back since Kristen Stewart is not in the film. I don't know for certain why she wasn't involved. Perhaps the studio wanted to distance the new film from the scandal of her affair with the first film's director, or the fact she wasn't that widely praised in the role to begin with. Or maybe they just thought the Huntsman was the more popular character. Whatever the reason may be, I didn't miss her to be honest.

THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER'S WAR is actually pretty decent, but I don't expect a third film in this franchise.
