The Tunnel VS Grave Encounters

I thought tunnel was much more exciting and more interesting because of how the introduction was taking its time and didnt rush into action

I thought both were very entertaining...

However, if you're looking for one with a more real feel, The Tunnel is the one to go with...

Grave Encounters by far had more suspense and was genuinely frightening. This film just has zero suspense at all, ruined by the awful interviews attempting to make the film more 'dramatic' or something.

*English is not my primary langage.

Grave Encounters is my favorite horror movie of last year and I really didn't like The tunnel. I have nothing against aussie horror movies (Storm warning was quite good) but tunnel reminded me too much of Creep.

I have nothing against slow pace movies, but there were about no scare factor in this one.

They're about the same level to me. If the cutaway interviews weren't in The Tunnel then I would definitely give the edge to it but those interviews and the score kinda took some of the suspense out for me. If it was filmed just straight through real time like GE was then it would be so much better. GE had too much exposure and CGI. The Tunnel was good in that department because we didn't see the creature too much and it didn't show up that much either. I really liked that because too much exposure and too often kills horror monsters for me. I like wondering what it looks like fully and what it's capable of doing. GE is more of a fun little haunted house ride that will scare you but in ways you're going to expect and you're not going to be as scared because you see everything. In the end claustrophobia will win my heart over any day, but like I said this wouldn't of been that hard of a decision if it wasn't for those stupid interviews. My perfect scary movie is The Descent. Gives me the chills every time I watch it.

reply

I'm exactly opposite. I liked this movie far, far more than GE. I just thought the premise was better and the scares more subtle. The second GE was unwatchable, so maybe that is jading me somewhat. To each their own, but this was the only found footage genre movie I've thought was decent for quite a while.

I like both but Grave Encounters is better

The acting in The Tunnel was better, but wasted. The acting in Grave Encounters was cheesy, but more entertaining.

Grave Encounters was better because they did a better job of showing what the people are freaked out about. They delivered on the entities. I actually remember scenes from the movie and remember the entities.

The Tunnel spent most of the time on set up, but when the monster struck, they didn't let us see enough of it to feel threatened by it so it was mostly the people running, screaming looking down corridors and at walls.

reply

I love found footage but I had a problem with liking Grave Encounters, there was something about The Tunnel that just scared me a lot more.

reply

like the fact that there are tunnels underground that are like a maze, squatters live down there, you just don't know where you are. CREEPY

reply

The Tunnel wins - better acting, likable characters, more unique plot

reply

definitely tunnel. while grave encounters has an interesting premise (esp. loved the scene with the building changing and the neverending darkness), the actors were horrible, the fake cgi really took away from the movie and how stupider the movie got from the sighting of the first paranormal figure onwards.
