Why is it SO different from the book?

There's always some sort of minor changes when adapting a novel to the screen but with this being animated I can't think of any good reason they would have changed so much aside from studio executives wanting it to appeal to younger children more so than young adults.

Also changing Claire to Hispanic instead of Scottish or British or whatever she was in the book as well as Jim living with his Mom instead of his dad...that changes the whole dynamic of their relationship and who Jim is!

Anyone have ideas or answers?

Yup; go see a therapist about being so OCD when it comes to stuff like this. You may think I'm trolling you, but the fact is if you continue worrying about this kind of stuff, indulging your feelings about whatever tiny or big thing irks you .."cuz it's not like the book!!!...it's not like this or that...", it won't be long before you end up being insufferable to anyone worth knowing.

And it has nothing to do with acknowledging, noticing, discovering things like this or that detail or change or difference or any other insights. It's about the attitude that drives the inquiry. And yours is clearly angry, bitter and ends up missing the point entirely.

Anyway, I loved the book a few years back and I'm in love with the series. My reaction to the differences?:

"Oh, that's cool that they'd do it this way..."

Changes made in adaptations often have more to do with encouraging the creation of characters, ideas and designs that are fresh and organic to that particular adaptation. It helps to make it its own thing, though still inspired and tied to the OG of it all.

Oh well, que sera sera! And forget all my BS if it upsets you.

May the light of Merlin shine bright within!

No I'm not angry at all just confused as to why it was changed so drastically...like I said. Maybe disappointed because it's a different story all together, but not angry. Why see a therapist when I have you!?

because telling the same story would be boring. they want to explore other options. the walking dead is different too.
