Season two?

I just finished season one. Took me like two days. Awesome show. Highly recommend it. Noticed something. A: Season one is called Part One. B: Anton Yelchin is tragically dead. And what will happen now that We need a new voice actor for jim? (hopefully we get a similar sounding one) also nothing about part two. I need more.

IKR, I think this has now become my favourite animated series, maybe even better than The Last Airbender. It has the right mix of fast and smart humour, adventure, action, romance etc. etc. Even impressed how the evil trolls actually LOOK scary, even though you know they're obviously animated. Even with the unfortunate loss of Anton Yelchin I hope they renew this for a 2nd season and it is even half as awesome as the first.

Yes my favorite animated show also. Took the winning Buffy template and put a much purer, youthful, idealistic spin, with guillerno Del toro's winning touch of beauty and fantastic. And horror.

reply

Haha thanks for the Buffy reference.. that would be close to my favourite live-action show and I didn't relate the formula until you pointed it out. :)

Well I watched the whole episode in a day, and seeing where the last episode left off, with Jim about to fight Gunmar, I'm pretty sure it's just going to be one last episode, but like 1 hour episode. Also I read on wikipedia that Yelchin dies before finishing the last of his lines, so this series is most likely not meant to have more seasons.

Yelchin dying has nothing to do with it being "meant" to have more seasons. It's obvious by leaving open plot points that more are intended. Whether or not they continue is another story.

The issue will be whether Netflix pays for more, and that will be based on viewership and memberships.

Keep in mind a 2 hour dreamworks movie costs millions to make. This was almost 13 hours.

Also, it's pretty obvious that what has been released so far was originally meant to be two 13 -episode seasons. There's a clear break after episode 13, which left on a cliff-hanger similar to the finale in ep 26. I wonder why they released it all at once? My concern is that yelchins death and financial issues made them give up and just release everything they had. I hope not.

Dreamworks likely intended the show to be network aired and created the story with that in mind. However, with Netflix, there's no real point to having multiple seasons. The second part of the show also really cements some of the character growth and emotional build, so it'd make sense to release all of it at once. Otherwise the story and hype would have grown cold while we waited.

Where the 26th episode left off is actually perfect. Most of the character stories have been wrapped up. The only thing left hanging is Enrique(In a basket in the Darklands.), who we really have little emotional attachment with.

reply

True about emotional attachment to Enrique, but we do gave attachment to Claire and she's devastated.

Plus Jim has gone off on his own with some new inexplicable and possibly dangerous power. And we still have the ultimate protagonist to deal with. I don't see it as satisfactorily summed up at all.

But that's just my personal opinion.

Honestly, I doubt they would cancel Part 2. Yelchin died 6 months before Trollhunters released on Netflix, so they would've cancelled the whole thing instead...

Yelchin dies before finishing the last of his lines, so this series is most likely not meant to have more seasons.

Replacing actors in movies and TV shows is an incredibly common thing to do, and since this is an animated series geared towards kids, it becomes that much easier to do with current technology. On top of that, with the show being titled "Trollhunters", they could even show him being killed by Gunmar and someone else picking up the mantle😉

If this show wasn't meant to have more than 1 (or 2) season(s), do you really think Netflix would call it "Part 1"?😕

reply

Considering yelchin died prior to finishing all his voice work and they found a suitable sound alike to finish the first season, I can't see that being a reason not to get a season 2.

At least I really hope they go forward with another season.

To the cost, yes a DreamWorks 2 hour animated movie has a large budget and this is like 13 hours. That said the animation used is not on the same level as the feature films, still extremely good animation and some of the best I've seen on a TV show, but not feature quality all the way through. That does means it's a bit cheaper.... Also it's not like this is the only DreamWorks cg animated series on Netflix, so this also shouldn't be an issue.

Just bring me a season 2 because this is a great new show.

reply

Because people keep referencing the animation. It is pretty similer to the animation of transformers prime. (I.e. Megatron and Gunmars son) did anyone else notice this or no... also yelchin was amazing. I saw him in star trek and that vamp movie, forgot what it was called..... hes among the great many actors that 2016 stole from us.
