Did rani mukherjee do justice to the role of a tv anchor/journalist ???

In my opinion her attitude was ok (always charged up and all) but rarely have i seen an anchor with such a harsh voice. I mean Pretty Zinta's role suited her in Lakshya. But rani was kind of over reacting.

There was significant over-acting from her side. Incidentally all the cursing didn't go well with how she was uttering the words. She tried to make it "appear" that it was part of the character's casual demeanor but the fact that it looked as though she was only trying to make that happen makes her entire effort, in the end, a farce.

That so called 'tough guy' attitude she was projecting had no relevance to her role. She could have played a more calm individual.

reply

Your right but you have to remember she doesn't pick her character's personality. Her role was a person with an attitude that wasn't a calm individual. Giving justice to the role is where rani's part comes in.

She was overshadowed by Balan. As soon as Rani got some screen time, she dissapeared again. Then I was thinking 'when will she appear again'?

reply

If you observe keenly , the screen time is more or less equally shared between Vidya and Rani . When Rani comes onscreen the scenes which take place are fast paced and edgy so it looks as if those scenes just fly by. But actually speaking I'll say Vidya get 55% of screen time and Rani 45% but has she done with her 45% is what that matters. As far as I am concerned both of them were equally good in their respectively roles and as rightly said Rani does not get to decide the characterisation of the role she plays. She was just giving what the directed wanted her to .

I liked it. The cursing adds more to her personality, idk maybe you Indians can't take strong women lol

reply

dude what i meant was the way her voice sounds and all the user replies here including yours ave taken altogether different turn
I meant the harshness of her voice which won't be there in a new's anchors.
and please leave the racism when you get out of the loo..

reply

You don't need to curse, particularly mistreating co-workers and telling them to shut the *beep* up, to come off "strong"- that's ridiculous. Rani just appeared to be trying too hard to be "strong" and cool (when she just came off as a *beep* then was suddenly preaching about justice an hour and half into the movie. I wanted to slap her. Hard.

reply

Agree completely ! She was horrible in the movie.... she was way too hyper and her character was exaggerated a bit too much... she acted too badly in this film and spoiled it completely.

reply

Harsh voice? Way too hyper? Neither one---you obviously haven't seen a lot of American or non-Indian films, in which characters are WAY more hyped that what Mukerjee was playing. I didn't see anything over-the-top about her performance---in fact, I thought her character was fun. I liked her character, and frankly, it was startling at first to actually hear someone cursing American-style in the film, but then I thought, "Boy,that's different," because it's something you rarely hear in Indian films---heck,I've never seen anyone give the finger or get called a b**** like she was in this film---that's something new in a Bollywood film for me! It was also nice to see Vidya Balan (whom I liked in the thriller KAHAANI) in another film---she has a genuine,down-to-earth appeal which is refreshing to see, along with an equally down-to-earth beauty. Enjoying what I've seen of the film so far.

Wow. You have this hyper-critical attitude about everything, or just toward women? Both actresses were excellent. As was the film. Your complaints are about yourselves . . . your lives . . . something.
