Why did she never mention that it was their mother?! I think that bit of information would have been very helpful for the both of them to know!
I know it would have sucked for the audience (I thought it was the ghost or some hooligans), but I don't believe she didn't know who it was who tied her up. In the middle of nowhere away from all the light pollution the moon would have been enough for her to tell.
Ok, even though I didn't see anything (besides her bloody shirt, which could have been from just getting hit in the face) to indicate that her tongue was removed, saying the word 'mama' (or using blood to write it) doesn't require a tongue to.
And wouldn't she have died from blood loss if that was the case?
Long answer: The lack of dialogue on July's part after that scene, her constantly holding her hand over her mouth, and the large amount blood that had obviously come from her mouth leads me to believe that she no longer had a *beep* tongue. There's probably more details I've forgotten, but it seemed obvious to me. This is only speculation, but I'm going to assume that the sole purpose that this event was written into the plot was so that she COULDN'T inform her brother that her mother was psychotic *beep* There's an infinite number of hypotheticals both of us could come up to justify the plot or knock holes in it, just like every other film. Your questions basically amount to asking "Why didn't Christian just turn into a werewolf at the end and kill his mom?" It wasn't in the script, that's why.
Ok, ty for your explanation (even though the profanity wasn't needed), but still say mama with your tongue on the bottom of your mouth, say it with water in your mouth, say it without a tongue and you can still say it.
While your answers are conjecture, they do make sense. I'm not trying to get into an argument at all, but saying 'mama' doesn't require a tongue and might have made more sense then the twist in the movie wouldn't feel so sudden to most viewers.
So just to wrap up, yes she might have had her tongue pulled out even though there is nothing in the movie that states that that happened. But saying mom or writing it with the copious amounts of blood you seem to be losing seems like it makes more sense than letting your brother think it was hooligans or something paranormal.
there is no indication that her tounge was cut out. there is every indication that her mouth and nose was all messed out and covered in blood. so, let's think about what that could mean, perhaps, um, the mom simply knocked her the f*&*ck out by surprise, and it was dark. The dad had said earlier that the mom knew the way out there very well. so she snuck up on the sister and punched her our, when she woke up, she was tied up. simple explains why she doesn't know anything, and why her mouth was bleeding.
sometimes I wonder where people get this stuff, and if they saw the same movie that I did....
No kidding... It was pretty blatantly obvious her tongue was cut or ripped out. That amount of blood... They pretty much showed it in one seen too when Cristian shines the light on her and goes "Oh god" or something. Her mouth is just bloody and dark.
Pretty much all you could say with no tongue would sound like "mamamamamamama" or "ahhahaha" so even if she did say it, it's unlikely he'd make the connection.
Seriously.... People trying to tear apart movies in ways that don't make sense... amateur critics..
I disagree that her tongue was cut out. Yeah there was a lot of blood, totally possible from a broken nose and busted lip, though.
She would also have been having to spit up blood constantly, which she never did once, because there wasn't a bunch of blood in her mouth.
Also, go back and look real close. When he makes her stop, and moves the wadded up shirt to see her face, it does NOT show her mouth. It shows her nose, and the shirt still blocks her mouth. I just watched it on SLow-Mo like 5 times. Never shows her mouth.
