English SUBTITLES.

I was thinking the exact same thing while viewing. I have seen worse, but there were some instances here where the subtitles didn't work with the dialogue at all. I thought the main issue was with their translation of curse words (but that may be solely because the english language can't keep up with the amount of dirty words in spanish).

They didn't translate it well. Have of the stuff it said in English wasn't actually what they were saying in Spanish and sometimes when I would read the English subtitles it would throw me off. But usually it is possible to get more than one interpretation of a movie. Movies are generally translated separately for different countries. I know, as a Canadian, we have Canadian French translated movies which differ than the same movie translated for playing in France. Usually the translations are done by locals to the country to use regional slang. So it depends on how skilled that person is in the two languages. Sometimes you get really good English speakers but poor (in this case) Spanish speakers (meaning that the English grammar and language is well done but with poor context) or you get a really good (in this case again) Spanish speaker who is a poor English speaker (poor grammar but good context).

The current Netflix streaming version has a few issues with translation, but most notable (for the American audience), is that it was translated by someone who speaks British English. For example, instead of translating cansado as tired, the subtitles read "knackered". I laughed. Who the frak says knackered? Also, remembering off-hand, mamá was translated to "mum" instead of mom.

Good movie, btw. 8/10 for creeping me out.

I just watched it on Hulu and the translations seem much better. A little British English instead of American English, but the words were translated much better. No "drugs" in place of cursing or any of that.
