What happened to husband (spoiler)

Wouldn't the first question to the older lady be, what happened in the past 50 years? Did the husband die in the fire as they both disappeared just as the husband fired the gun. And, history would have been radically changed with Nora not dying. The house would be different.

I liked the movie as long as the answers to those questions don't nag at me. I felt all along that he'd save her and that she would have a daughter or granddaughter that would be his true 'soul' mate.

I thought they said that just the bedroom had been damaged in the fire, but it was obviously the living room. I also didn't get why they disappeared when the husband fired the gun.
I have to say, that although I enjoyed the plot of the movie, I thought most of the acting was poor, with the exception of the lead male actor and his ex-fiance.

with the way that he acted, I couldnt' care less...what happened to him...she should have ended up with the handy mnan, at least he cared about her...

I'm thinking the husband wouldn't have died in the fire because his name was still in the phone book all those years later when Nora's name magically appeared. And I don't think she would have stayed in the house because she obviously left him--so the garden would have gone wild. You think? I'm just wondering where she disappeared to!

The whole history would have changed. I think Thomas either died in the fire or lett town since his name was magically erased in the phone book. Perhaps she left after that and never came back, but everything would be different when the timeline changed. Oh well.... just a fantasy story.

Who knows what happened to the husband whether he lived or not it doesnt say. I think the disappearing act was because Brian transported back to the future so the whole setting changed as opposed to Nora or both of them disappearing. The name change I guess was a way for the plot to show Nora didnt die in the fire so decided to show the name change for dramatic purposes I guess.

The name was explained. Nora said she made sure it was in the phone book since she wanted a way for him to find her in 2010. She knew he'd be in that town in 2010.

What's not clear to me was that the only one that left the "then" timeline was Brian. This means the husband still had the shotgun pointed at the wife. I suppose he changed his mind about shooting and they both survived.

Raylan Givens: I told him he's got 24 hours to get out of town or I'm gonna kill him.

Agree,I was puzzled too knowing the wife was standing behind Brian when the husband shot at him and thought if he disappeared in the past then the wife would be in the firing line so not quite sure what events took place after he disappeared as they didnt show or mention.

I'm guessing that Thomas wound up dying instead of Nora. The locket is the key, as it had been throughout the movie (note that Brian did not actually see Nora until he had found the locket). It represents 'true love' and it was dropped in the fireplace. The fire in the fireplace consumed the locket's magic between Thomas and Nora therefore breaking the bond between them. At the moment the bond was broken, Brian was transported back to present day (that's the point where Nora and Thomas disappeared) and we then see that Thomas' name had been wiped from the phone book and replaced by Nora Hargarve.

Nora insisted she could not leave Thomas, and I don't think she would have/could have had the locket not been dropped into the fireplace.

We also see the locket at the end, 50 years later, and it looked like it always had, with it's magical powers preserved. It did not look like it had been harmed by being in the fire. The fact that the locket was in fine shape to me says that it is ready to start anew. This is another reason why I believe Thomas was out of the picture and therefore dead.

An interesting side note is when Julie picked up the locket, it slipped out of her hands and into the fireplace. It was Brian's locket at that point, and she was not welcome to it's magic so she could not hold onto it. It was meant to be 'true love' between Nora and Brian, only 50 years later Nora wanted her grand daughter to find the 'true love' that she could not have with Brian all those years.

Loves to read, I thought the older guy he met at the restaurant was the first husband. When Rob started to ask him about Nora, the other guy seemed to get really mad and said "It was an accident...accidents happen" or something like that. Was glad to see that Nora married the nice handyman after all. I wasn't sure that was him, but she called him "Frank" so I watced it from the beginning again, and she (as a young woman) said "hello, Frank" when he came by to help with the garden.
