Heidi nodding off behind the wheel of her car

At the beginning, we see Heidi nodding off behind the wheel of her vehicle. The film then plays out it's strange and bizarre tale. I have to admit, I was a little confused by the proceedings and have seen twice. Not sure if it was a literal interpretation of the curse of Salem, or if Heidi had actually died and was trapped in limbo—sort of like Jacob's Ladder, Silent Hill or even the cult horror Carnival Of Souls—and playing the part of the chosen one who would birth the Anti-Christ. The demonic appearance\apparitions normally present themselves to those in these kind of films, to the character that has passed on don't know they have died. Her character could also have been tripping.
