I was under the impression that was a simulation, a test to find a solution to how to defeat the bugs. At any rate I thought the ending was a huge disappointment.

They explained that it wasn't a simulation. It was really the attack. They didn't tell Ender because they didn't want him to do anything other than to win. They didn't want him to look for a diplomatic solution, and they didn't want him to be freaked out by the idea that it was the real thing.
Years ago, there was some power lifter who was trying to break the record and dead-lift 1,000#. He could lift 998#, but just couldn't get the 1,000#. His trainer knew it was all in his head, so the next day he had him lift the 998#.
After he did that, they weighed the weights and it came out to like 1,001#. The trainer had changed the painted numbers on the weights so the lifter thought he was still only lifting 998#.
Because he had no mental barrier to tell him he couldn't lift 1,000#, he was able to lift it.
Because Ender had no mental barrier to tell him that he was going to exterminate billions of lives, he didn't hesitate to exterminate billions of lives.

He also didn't hesitate to sacrifice thousands of humans on those carriers when he diverted all of their drones to protect Petra's BFG ship. reply share
I thought there was an enemy fleet approaching or something.
There was...
Ender blew them all up - Remember that BIG-ASS space battle, just before he throws a wobbly and goes off on his little side-quest? That was it.

Ten minutes? Hell, the fricking tagline for the movie spoiled the ending "The Game is Real", what a joke of a tagline, it would be like marketing The Sixth Sense with the tagline "Bruce Willis is a ghost"
That is true, that is pretty much what the OP is saying, but in fairness, the film isn't at all clear about what is happening, so confusion is understandable.
That's not what I'm referring to it not being clear about. I'm talking about why Ender abruptly leaves and what he was planning to do. The ending was very poorly handled by this film.
I'm not angry. Because I said the word beep? lol If that conveys anger then someone needs to seriously rush Samuel L. Jackson to hospital because his cranium may explode any day now from high blood pressure. :)
