Do whites notice white male supremacy messages in movies?

Well, this is the typical "white male saves the universe" movie premise. We see this movie theme MANY times EVERY year. If you are white, especially a white male, you most likely LOVE this theme so you will feel at home watching this garbage. We've got Harrison Ford here trying to make a weak white kid violent to serve his purposes(war, of course). Btw, Harrison(Han Solo) was good friends with ANOTHER white male that "saved the universe " in a few movies that you've also probably seen. LOL! The movie is full of white males(and white-LOOKING males) intimidating and dominating non-white males("watch your mouth, Nick", "That's right, I'm the boss!") and ALL of the females in one-on-one situations where they are equally armed/matched(Ford vs Davis, Bonzo vs Petra). Funny, but I don't see this too often in MY real life but it's an old, old, theme in American cinema. The script has damn near every Black male character picking on the "smartest kid in the whole outfit" to continue the practice of using MOVIES to instill fear and hate in whites towards minorities. They also have the Mexican kid picking on him for the SAME purpose and since you often can't tell the difference between a white person and a Latino, they make SURE to have him speak Spanish for a second. Of course, he is eventually defeated by the skinny white kid who we all know the FEMALE love interest would probably defeat in a fight. The "hero" goes from not being able to fire a weapon, to being a MARKSMAN after having ONE brief lesson from the beautiful female love interest, who of course, is all goo goo over this skinny nerd. Again, I don't see beautiful females attracted to skinny nerds too often in REAL life either!! LOL!! Later, they have him being promoted OVER a grown Black man who, of course, seems to have no problem taking orders from a KID since EVERYBODY knows that he's "the One"! Sound familiar? LOL!! Every white male supremacist patterned movie MUST have SELL-OUT minorities, desperate to be celebrities, to play the part of the "inferior" characters and in this movie, the MAIN one is Viola Davis. Another one is the Black kid who played Dink. Near the end, Petra tells Ender that they thought he got cut from the team and were going to have to have Dink take over as the leader. Dink conveniently says states that he COULDN'T be the leader. Smh....

I didn't post in this board to start a debate with whites(or "Uncle Ruckus"-type minorities) about white supremacist messages in the media. There IS no debating this and I WON'T engage in one. This post is see how many other minorities and non-racist whites are TIRED of watching these cheap vehicles meant to SUBLIMINALLY program the public into their respective "roles". Even though there is supposed to be freedom of speech in America, I'm sure that eventually, the elite white male power structure that is BEHIND this ancient ART OF WAR technique, will attempt to shut me down for EXPOSING the OVERT and COVERT white supremacist messages that we have FOREVER seen in American media. But until THEN, I will be the movie critic that you can depend on to call out white supremacist messages in the media. I will ALSO be calling out the minority actors that continue to ACCEPT and PLAY these degrading roles.

The TLDR for anyone interested:

I'm a retarded "minority" and anyone who disagrees with my opinion is a racist @sshole.

Truth here is Vibe, he who preaches that everything has a racist agenda is a racist himself.
You go on about whites and think you sound like Martin Luther King while you're the complete opposite. You're trash while he was, quite literally, King.

Since I wasn't discussing "everything", it would be ridiculous to assume that I "preach" that "everything" has a racist agenda. I was EXTREMELY clear and SPECIFIC about what I KNOW to be part of a white supremacist/racist agenda, but since it was "too long, didn't read", I guess you missed that. No worries.

"You go on about whites and think you sound like Martin Luther King..." - Lavernius_Tucker OR a white person pretending to be Black.

NOW, you are implying that you can read my MIND when you know that you CAN'T. No worries.

I expected white racists and Uncle Ruckus to appear and I'm cool with that, but like I ALREADY stated, you get no debate from me. You were UNABLE to directly refute my position about the SPECIFIC instances in the film that I CLEARLY referenced, so you tried the "I call reverse racism!" tactic. FAIL. No worries.

You're done.

Thanks for the reply.

I read the first dozen or so messages in this thread and decided life is too short to read the rest, so I apologise if I'm repeating arguments from later messages.
However, in the unlikely case that the OP is neither a troll or irredeemably obtuse perhaps he would consider the following:
In movies involving aggressive aliens, HUMANS always come out on top. Despite the fact that we know that humans are VERY flawed, in movies they are always smarter, braver and more resourceful than the aliens.
It doesn't matter that the aliens may be stronger, telepathic and have technology thousands of years ahead of ours.
And the reason humans will always win... because the movies are made for humans, and movies are wish fulfillment.
Likewise, Hollywood primarily makes films for white people. Other races, on the whole, are incidental. Why? Because the most lucrative markets are mainly in North America and Europe. And most of the writers, directors and producers are white and male.
Inserting leading black and female protagonists into Star Wars TFA was a cynical if worthy attempt to appear modern and liberal (and get more $$$ from girls and non-white viewers).
Similarly, Americans always outwit the Commies and the cowboys always defeat the indians and in teen movies the kids always outsmart the adults.
Movies are an expensive business and it pays to make the target market the winners.

Wow.... You must be Jewish. That's always the same excuse I get when debating with Jews about atrocities created by them all over the world. It always comes down to MONEY as an excuse. It's soooo old. It's also not true anymore. Women and non-whites are going to make white males sorry that they ever created privilege for themselves REALLY SOON now. Then they will be crying like little 4 year olds who've had their ice cream cones snatched away from them, and just as clueless about why it was taken. A child doesn't often understand why they are being punished and neither will white males. It's already happening. It's why Trump has arrived on the scene. White males are seeing their privilege and dominance being slowly ripped out of their cowardly hands and they're desperately trying to fight back to keep their UNEARNED privilege. But it wouldn't have to be that way if they 1.) admitted that they're PURPOSELY using the media, the military, subliminal suggestion, covert ops, privacy invasion of citizens, germ warfare, HAARP, and other things to create a narrative and rhetoric of dominance and superiority, and 2.) STOPPED doing it. But now what's going to happen is REVENGE and then a CONTINUANCE of selfishness and unfairness when the tide turns.

Go back to the playground and you'll understand all the psychology you'll ever need to know. Take a bunch of kids(let's say, 50) and divide them into 5 groups based on WHATEVER you want to. The kids are given candy everyday right before recess by an authority figure (AF), and the AF gives ONE of the groups more candy EVERYDAY just because they like that group more for WHATEVER reason. At first, the discriminated kids will resent the AF for not being fair, but eventually they will resent the privileged kids DIRECTLY because NOBODY is making them ACCEPT the extra candy and they COULD offer to take ALL of the candy and EVENLY redistribute it. THAT'S what people with INTEGRITY do, in fact, you'll notice that some of the privileged kids give some or all of their surplus to the discriminated kids. THESE are the kids that have INTEGRITY and they do it simply because they know that they would want a privileged group to be FAIR and JUST to THEM if the situation was reversed.

White men and whites in general who are reading this: You don't have much time to do the right thing and stop using psychological, "Art of War" strategies and techniques to give yourselves advantages and privilege over the other groups that reside in America. If you STOP oppressing the other groups, start making amends with the other groups that you've oppressed, and start working to create a society that's balanced and fair for ALL groups, then there won't be a desire for REVENGE when the power and wealth is redistributed in the near future. NO unbalanced systems remain unbalanced forever. NEVER!!!

If they made Ender a black boy, you'd still be complaining about racism. "Playing the victim" is the only way you & groups like the NAACP can remain relevant instead of obsolete. BTW in the actual book Ender is not white, so maybe you should skip watching & try reading instead.

reply

If they would have "The One" a black street wise kid who kicks ass then the same folks would be screaming about stereotypes and of course more racism.

I'm sick of hearing all the squealing about racism. Sure there is still some racism going on in our society but there are many other groups or types that the unwashed and unlearned find something to hate about. And it will never change. It's just part of human nature and will always be with us.

I’m trying to figure out if you’re trying to make a point or trolling. Your first statement is accurate enough. But most of your points throughout your post don’t support your initial premise. They are your gripes with the movie and some are fairly idiotic. For instance, Bonzo isn’t Latino, he’s Spanish. Ender learning to shoot was obviously a consolidation of his training. He didn’t get that good after one session, it took many, but to save time for more important issues the movie consolidated that training. Just like Ender getting so good in the Battle Room didn’t happen in just one battle, he practiced in his free time but the movie can’t show him training all the time otherwise it would really cut into the time needed to address bigger topics. The nerd comments speak to your prejudices too, rather than supporting your point. You criticize a girl liking a scrawny, intelligent kid yet he is the 2nd smartest and best commander in the school – and you don’t think women are drawn to successful men because they look nerdy? Women are attracted to all sorts of men and, quite often, a successful man can attract more women (even if they aren’t physically impressive).

So, while I agree with your initial premise that this is yet another movie with a white male protagonist, I have point out that your supporting arguments are quite poor.

reply

Obviously, you've read the book, which I haven't. MOST people haven't, I'd imagine, and the movie was TERRIBLE at leaving us with the impression that he was getting MORE training than what we were witnessing, ESPECIALLY since they kept on pointing out the lack of time that they had to prepare. I've seen plenty of movies that QUICKLY let the viewer know that time is going by while a particular act like training is going on. This one DIDN'T do that at all. While not skinny, I'M A NERD, so I'm NOT prejudiced against nerds but it may have seemed that way to you due to my disgust at the poor attempt to make this kid "Superman", who as we ALL know attracts women LARGELY due to his muscularity and build. BEAUTIFUL women are NOT generally attracted to skinny nerds in REAL life and you know it(and so do MOST other people, I'd imagine) so cut the *beep* my friend. Whenever I was talking in GENERALITIES here, I was careful to point it out. BTW, how do you know that Bonzo was actually Spanish? I missed that.

Anyways, thanks for your reply!! :)

reply

I'll start with the simple one first:

BTW, how do you know that Bonzo was actually Spanish?
It was in the book. However, even without the book, the only thing we know about him in the movie is he comes from a Spanish-speaking country. You assumed Mexican based on only that. I'd be willing to bet most Americans would get that as well but it is still just a guess. Basing an argument on a guess makes a very flimsy point.

I do agree that the movie did a poor job with showing time advancing. While the book makes it obvious years passed while Ender was at Battle School, the movie makes it looks like a few weeks or months. However, even with that being the case, does it not make more sense for the movie to consolidate training where possible rather than dragging out training that does nothing to progress the story line but only makes the protagonists training more realistic? It is like any movie where you don't see people reloading. While the infinite clip is amusing, it is easier to believe that they reloaded in the time the movie cut to something/somewhere else than to believe the gun just doesn't run out of ammo (okay, the volume of ammunition is always ridiculous, especially if you've every carried a couple hundred rounds and know how fast you can burn through that).

BEAUTIFUL women are NOT generally attracted to skinny nerds in REAL life and you know it(and so do MOST other people, I'd imagine) so cut the *beep* my friend. Whenever I was talking in GENERALITIES here, I was careful to point it out.
3 things:
1) We aren't talking about women in general society here. We are talking about women in an isolated environment. It is practically its own society with its own values and mores with a select few choices for people to commune with. With a reduced pool to choose from and different traits valued differently from normal society, what a woman would find attractive there can't be matched against our generalities.
2) You are comparing average people to the top percentage of intelligent kids in the world. In a general society, you might be right that physical attraction is a large part of attracting women (at least initially) but we aren't talking about the average woman in a normal society. We are talking about people who think about and understand things far faster and differently than normal society. That is why they are chosen for Battle School in the first place.
3) This is a story. If you told your own story, would you spend a lot of time on women that you failed to attract or would you spend time on the ones you did? Especially if you were telling a story about a specific event in your life, wouldn't you focus on the woman or women that directly impacted that event? As this is Ender's story, perhaps there were other women that he was attracted to but they weren't in him. As it has no impact or bearing on this story, does it not make sense that they wouldn't be included?

As I said in my initial reply, I think your premise is valid. I just find your supporting points lacking. It seemed like you wanted to vent about a movie you didn't like (to be fair, I wasn't very impressed with it; the book was much better) using racism and privilege as your platform to do so.

reply

In my argument, it doesn't matter what he ACTUALLY is, only what he is PERCEIVED as, and in America, he is perceived as Mexican. This tactic of focusing on PERCEPTIONS rather that TRUTHS, is used time after time in Hollywood's campaign of white male supremacist messaging. In the future, please keep that in mind.

"I do agree that the movie did a poor job with showing time advancing."

In my opinion, the movie did a poor job with showing time advancing because it WANTED to, which was my ORIGINAL point. It takes all of 15 seconds to illustrate the progression of a particular act over a period of time. In 'Hannibal Rising', they accomplish this quite easily when showing a teen-aged Hannibal Lector receiving instruction from his Asian aunt by marriage, and this is ONE of HUNDREDS of examples of this OLD cinematography technique. So your point here is moot. Personally, I can't STAND the 'unlimited ammo" faux pas of Hollywood movies. LOL!! :)

As for your first of "3 things", I agree that this is NOT a typical society we're witnessing in the movie.

I disagree on your second point because this is STILL a military school and PHYSICAL FORCE is extremely desirable to those with that military mindset. The beautiful girl is actually GUNNING the SUPER POWERFUL "ultimate weapon" which suggests to ME that she IS, in fact attracted to PHYSICAL POWER.

When telling MY story, the TRUTH is MOST important to me and if a beautiful girl was NOT interested in me because I was a skinny nerd that looked like I couldn't defend a Happy Meal, I would NOT omit that TRUTH because I'm NOT attempting to make Black men, for example, appear to be above rejection. This goes back to my ORIGINAL point of white male supremacist messaging in the media.

Great points though and again I thank you for your participation in my post! :)

reply

Well, first of all, it's not a discussion if you create a thread, beggibg for people to join your side. It's just a pretty silly attempt to get your ass licked.

Besides that, where you talk about a white male, I, and probably most ppl, just saw a child.

The fact that you are so strung with the child being male and white really tells a lot about you, but really doenst give an insight on a tropic that might well be regarded. It's just as stupid as saying Jeanne D'Arc was a medival campaign for feministic cultural violence.

What is it with you? Are male whites so disturbing and threating to you, that you have to pull those superficial attributes over the fact that the main antagonist was a child that only existed to fulfill the absurd needs of the parents and the be either crushed by unrealistic needs or succed in it? Do you really think this would have been actually a different story if it was a black girl? If so, you just simply pointed out you are the racist.

reply

Sorry, but I can't be bothered by every white person who wants to fight. You are not making any sense here and I ALREADY said that I'm NOT debating this. Thank you for your reply.

People, if you HAPPEN to be white and don't see the MANY white male supremacist messages, blatant AND subliminal, in this film(or in ANY Hollywood film), then that's ok. As the title of this post clearly explains, I'm looking to hear the thoughts of those who DO so that we may have an honest discourse about this WELL KNOWN dynamic in the media. America is having a hard time abandoning old, racist practices in ALL areas right now and I'm interested in finding solutions to this disturbing issue. If all races are EQUALLY represented in movies to you, then you probably ALSO believe that all races are being treated equally in REAL LIFE which is just NOT true. Even my white friends often comment on how racist the messages are in movies and on TV. I was VERY specific about WHERE the obvious messages in THIS film are and if you simply don't agree but have no direct argument related to THAT, then please just move on. Thank you. :)

reply

Strange how you say you won't debate this or engage in a discussion on it and yet you allowed yourself to do both. Don't pretend to be taking some high road and then engage in silly arguments leading nowhere...

It's all a take on the "Messiah" storyline. The characters are generally portrayed as white, but if you want to use that as a reason to race bait, then I will just shake my head at you.

America isnt ready for a gay mexican chicken sandwich - Poultrygeist

reply

No head-shaking necessary, my Brother. I'm seriously interested in leveling the playing field when it comes to racial images in the Hollywood media industry. I don't believe that Mexicans can ONLY play the cholo, housekeeper, or migrant worker role. I don't believe that Asians can ONLY play the scientist or martial arts expert role. I think that the people running Hollywood have TOO much control in deciding the images of different groups of people and I believe that ALL groups of people should be able to decide their OWN image which will eventually be shown to the world. I believe that an honest discourse MUST be had if we are EVER going to get past the problems that we are experiencing. How can white America, for example, expect Blacks and Latinos in the inner city to CHANGE their image when a NEGATIVE image of them is CONSTANTLY being propagated in the media. If you TRULY want to stop a particular group of people from being violent, you have to do two things. First, you have to stop subjecting THEM to violence. The Black Americans have been treated violently since arriving as slaves in this country by a white supremacist system that NOW wonders why many of them resort to VIOLENCE to solve their problems. Secondly, you have to stop PORTRAYING them as violent. ANY psychiatrist knows that people LARGELY act out the behavior that they see themselves portrayed as. If they see themselves portrayed as savage, then they will ACT that way just like people that see themselves portrayed as being in charge and "over" other people will ACT that way.

Thanks for your reply! :)

reply

Again, the "Messiah" or "Chosen One" tropes are very popular in fiction. The race of the characters would have no effect on the stories.

America isnt ready for a gay mexican chicken sandwich - Poultrygeist

reply

When the Messiah or Chosen One is CONSISTENTLY depicted as one PARTICULAR race, it THEN becomes a problem AND a tool to spread the belief that the race being CONSISTENTLY used, is superior or more deserving of being a leader, deity, or spiritual figure.

Thanks again for your reply. :)

I noticed the white male thing and was surprised at how strong they are still portraying this theme--in 2015! It started nearly a century ago, when movies first were being made, and they were made for white people who believed those stereotypes. The WWII generation expected the whit male to save the world--without that core belief, General Eisenhower would never have been able to send over 400,000 men to die, be wounded or disappear between D-Day and the end of the war. A

Later, the stereotype continued, in my opinion, because of the economic and personal power of the white male leading men who wished to star in these vehicles. I don't believe there was any conspiracy--there were egotistical, wealthy, powerful men with contracts to make or star in movies who searched out these scripts to further their images, sex appeal, and career value. The crazy stunts they pulled off--the mom, country, and apple pie crap was just the dressing they used to complete their image. It was not a conspiracy beyond what the Hayes Office censored. It was ego and the quest for money. The powerful actors were white males, as were directors. They even hid being Jewish. The studios existed to make money--and this stuff sold. Clark Gable to John Wayne and Steve McQueen to Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzneggar, Tom Cruise, Kevin Costner. And now Daniel Craig, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg and whoever--I admit I don't watch them. But they are still selling the same stuff, although the class of guys being cast is a little broader--Aaron Eckhart, Shia Laboef (?), Will Smith, etc, and even females sometimes...Scarlet Johanson, others I can't think of off hand.

But it's not a conspiracy--it's personal racist and sexist beliefs of those who hold the purse strings. If they think this way, they think it's correct, and they expect others to agree. So they won't risk cash to star females, African Americans, Hispanics, Muslims, Chinese....whoever. They won't risk it. And those who have had box office success in the past are the ones with production deals, offices on the studio lots, and cash, looking for scripts to star themselves, to make more money, get another production deal.... It's a circle. And very difficult for newcomers to break into the club.

I cringed when the black sargeant went from yelling at the kids in basic training mode to calling the weasely little kid "Sir." What a fiction! It was so patronizing I did not expect white boys to buy it either. But the world caters to them in ways they have no clue it's doing. They live their lives without once thinking they better not go there--don't turn into that neighborhood, don't walk into that parking structure alone... They don't fear sexual assault, they don't fear police harassment...whatever the things that the rest of us must always avoid to be safe, they just charge into their lives oblivious. They got jobs out of school, and reported their bosses still had openings but weren't publicizing them because they did not want a "God damned woman" working there. There were no women with those jobs, and certainly not African Americans. It's worlds better now, but it is NOT the level playing field the white males think it is. I know women work harder, longer to prove themselves, and I know whit males can relax, make mistakes, take time off that the rest of us cannot do. They will never get it.

Movies have to be the first to reflect how we want the world to be. We can't let them regress to some John Wayne star vehicle for a white guy to save the world. This movie was the worst of the worst in that way. Was there any black character that did not go from being in charge, opinionated to "Yes Sir" and "I resign?" Was there a female that was not either a mother (or mother's nurturing replacement in space), sister or potential love interest? NOPE! Every leader was male. These writers need to watch Star Trek! Women can seamlessly fit right into the space military theme. This film was not even 50% female recruits. And yes, the really bad guy the hero vanquished first was Spanish. He was evil and had the hugest nose...straight off a nazi poster from the 1930s. One negative portrayal would be insignificant if there were a dozen good ones, but there aren't any good ones. This movie was what the Brits call "cringeworthy" from start to finish. They insulted everyone who was not a 14 year old white male (or perhaps a 60 year old white male). Patronizing to a degree it just may qualify for rotten tomatoes or cult status in the KKK.

how many girls do u see in masters or any higher education colleges??? they are always the minority . why?? god knows.. dont blame the movie blame the reality.

Your statements are WILDLY untrue and unrelated. If you were attempting to say that there are more men in Masters and Doctoral programs, then you are WRONG.

As for your second statement, media will ALWAYS be blamed, to some degree, for the mindset of any society paying it attention. And RIGHTLY so. COUNTLESS studies have indicated how powerful the affect of ANYTHING that we see/hear/smell/touch/taste is to our PERCEPTION of reality, and likewise, to our BEHAVIOR.

I can only speak for law school. In the mid 70s females were 40%. And to my knowledge those numbers have only increased. Degrees behind your name qualify for jobs that otherwise require a penis. And my doctors have always been females or in offices at least half female. My dentist is a woman. When I went to a pain psychologist for help dealing with back surgery pain, they were female--one PhD, one masters degree in psychology. I can only speak for those I've known, and I see many more white males with no degrees than I do women. They always have some excuse. But the women manage to hold 2 jobs to pay the bills, if necessary. Even when bthey have a couple of kids. Guys quit because someone "disses" them. It's absurd what spoiled babies they are. Again, these are my personal experience.

Btw, there are an awful lot of young women PhD astrophysicists, nuclear physicists, etc, on the documentaries on TV about science and space. They are teaching at MIT, Princeton, etc, so they must have graduated from some big name university. Same with professors on the Yale program where you can take many classes on the computer..youtube and the website Yale set-up for this, no registration, just learn. Those professors got their PhDs somewhere significant.

What college is it where you don't see female graduate students?

Oh noes, a story written by a white male has a white male protagonist. The horror, the horror!

reply

Perhaps you're jumping around from thread to thread and forgot where you were. We've all done this so there's no harm done. :) THIS thread is discussing white male supremacist messages in the MOVIES(these exist mostly in Hollywood). YOU'RE discussing white male supremacy in the motion picture INDUSTRY and how there is a LARGELY disproportionate number of films made by white males that are picked up by the Hollywood studios. No worries, my friend.

Thanks for your reply. :)

reply

Just for fun, substitute each of your uses of the term "white" with "black" or "Jewish".

You're a disgusting racist.

Do ponies make you angry?

reply

Why would I do that? It would INSTANTLY make my statements untrue because there is no such thing, for example, as Black male supremacy. Since Jews ARE usually white AND overwhelmingly represent the elitist class of the white race, you actually COULD swap out the word "white" for "Jewish" without changing the validity of the statement.

Remember that racism is a SYSTEM, not simply a behavioral attribute like bigotry. Notice the suffix "-ism" in the word "racism". Notice OTHER systems like Communism, capitalism, and imperialism ALSO have that suffix. Racism is the system wherein one race oppresses one or more OTHER races by denying them EQUAL access to wealth and power. No where on the planet do Black people even have enough POWER to deny ANY other race equal access to ANYTHING. Because of white male supremacy, Blacks don't even have control over the natural resources in their own COUNTRIES that whites have ravaged, raped, and left barren and unsustainable for agriculture.

You're EXTREMELY ignorant and misinformed, and when your COLLECTIVE group, white males, is called out for its despicable behavior and colonialistic, supremacist mindset, instead of admitting the OBVIOUS and working to institute a change, you actually attempt to play the age-old children's game of "I-Know-You-Are-But-What-I'm-I"!! Sorry, but THAT didn't work when you were a kid, and it CERTAINLY won't fly now. I CAN'T be considered a racist JUST because YOU are one. I'd have to, like you do, fall under the DEFINITION of racist to be considered one. White males have historically been very adept in changing the meanings of words to fit THEIR agenda. But I'M a scholar of etymology and semantics, so you'll find it quite a bit more difficult to get away with ALTERING words with me. While Blacks CAN be bigots and CAN unjustly discriminate against other people, BLACKS CANNOT BE RACISTS!! Learn your words!!!

Remember, the purpose of this thread is to discuss white male supremacist messages in the movies so that we can gain an understanding and MOVE PAST white male supremacy/racism BEFORE the non-whites of the planet unite and ELIMINATE the problem altogether. If you don't have anything to say OTHER than denying the existence of a "Manifest Destiny" mindset in the COLLECTIVE white male population of America, you're part of the problem. Especially since it was YOUR leaders(white males) that coined the phrase in the first place.

reply

Racism against whites is still racism.

This is my last word in this thread.

Do ponies make you angry?

reply

There is no such thing as RACISM towards whites because NO other RACE of people is oppressing them by denying them equal access to wealth and power. Now understand that this is simply semantics and it DOESN'T mean that whites are never discriminated against or treated unfairly. The act of discriminating is a FUNDAMENTAL component of animal behavior and we will NEVER see the end of RACIAL discrimination anymore than we'll see the end of homicide. It's just the way animals function. I'm quite sure that whites that live in, let's say Ghana, occasionally experience racial discrimination. It is inevitable due to the fact that whites are the minority in Ghana. But they NEVER experience RACISM because there is no SYSTEMIC construct that has been created to prevent them from having EQUAL access to wealth and power. Black educators in Ghana are not formulating standardized testing with the intent to marginalize the performance of white kids in school by using the differences in culture, language, and environment to skew the results of the tests. Black attorneys in Ghana are not creating legislation that punishes the "preferred" crimes of whites MORE severely than the "preferred" crimes of Blacks. Blacks in Ghana do not seek to stop or in any way obstruct whites in Ghana from operating out of their OWN culture WITHIN Ghana. Black-controlled governmental agencies in Ghana are NOT inundating the white communities with drugs, guns, and prostitution in an attempt to have them all kill each other with violence and disease over the limited resources. Black politicians in Ghana are NOT formulating voter ID laws with the intent to suppress the white vote in elections. Blacks in Ghana DON'T use gerrymandering, redistricting, or redlining to oppress the white population. I could go on for DAYS!!

THIS is what RACISM looks like.

reply

vibe, you should learn the difference between privilege and racism. You confuse the two a lot and leads you to say erroneous things (such there is no racism towards whites and then a few sentences later you prove yourself wrong). You have some legitimate arguments then you go and undermine your argument by failing to understand racism and privilege.

White people absolutely can face racism. If you were to say, for example, that white people look like pigs - that's a racist statement, simple as that, just as if you were to say that black people look like monkeys. The difference is that calling white people pigs, while not very nice, is not going to be damaging to their whole in the same way that calling black people monkeys reinforces institutional discrimination and racial stereotyping of the sort that they've suffered under for hundreds of years.

Also, there are white minority groups in various parts of the world that suffer from discrimination, negative stereotyping in the media, etc, e.g. Irish Travellers. The key thing to remember is it's not simply race that's the issue, it's the power dynamics between majority and minority populations. In America, whites (of a certain cultural and ethnic background) are very much in power, hence why racism against them is not as harmful as racism against black people or others not regarded by the majority as 'white.' Whereas in, say, the United Kingdom, Irish Travellers, being a very small and distinct cultural group, suffer from an immense amount of marginalization from mainstream society, deep-rooted and systematic racism, and are greatly disadvantaged in life in a number of ways, despite the fact that they appear no less 'white' than the most privileged whites in America (or Britian for that matter).

Racism is a SYSTEM. Just like capitalism, Communism, and consumerism. Notice the suffix "ism" in the word.

I suggest you read the book, and the companion book Ender's Shadow (and perhaps Shadow Puppets as well) then edit your post. In the books, Dink was offered command of a team, he realised that battle school was a game - it may have been a game in preparation for a war, but still a game. He didn't want command. The character of Mazer Rackham - mixed-race half Maori (Ben Kingsley IRL is half Indian). Alai - niger basin Muslim. The books were ethnically and racially diverse, hollywood on the other hand tends to be lacking the same diversity these books did. At least they did try to make the ethnicity of Petra (Armenian) and Bean (Greek) come through a little. Also, for the record, Bonzo Madrid was from Spain in the books, not Mexico. This was supposed to be an international fleet, not an American one.

After hearing you say that the books DON'T use the typical Hollywood white male supremacist template, I think I WILL read them. However, I don't see why THAT would make me wanna edit my post as my post is about white male supremacy in MOVIES. I find that books, even when written by whites, have FAR less of that *beep* in them which is ONE reason that leads me to believe that the Jews controlling Hollywood are PURPOSELY EDITING the stories from books and using SCREENPLAYS to insert the WMS template.

Thanks for the book info and your reply! :)
