some of the worst child acting ever...

...with some of the worst lines ever. This is not good filmmaking for any age of viewer.

I generally find there are no good child actors, so your statement is pretty much a blanket for all those about 16 or under.

reply

You obviosly hadn't see Interstellar, A.I. and Sixth Sense.

Nolan, I love you forever!

I hadn't see Interstellar, no... but I had see the other two and am still not particularly impressed.

It's almost always kids trying to act like the adults they're not, or kids trying to act like kids, rather than just being kids. Generally they either serve the role or serve the plot. It's not very easy to do both and do them well which is where most 'child actor' roles fail.

By contrast, I felt Stranger Things was far better than most of the child acting I've seen to date... and I'm not exactly young any more!! 

There are plenty of examples of movies where kids act like kids. This three examples are only the top of the iceberg. But though even on that plenty of examples, there are hundreds more where kids are overacting or truly tries to act like an adults or, to the opposite, like an idiots, so I'm not surprised that you have such an impression. Watch Interstellar, and you'll find out that kids can act. Mackenzie Foy was outstanding in it. She served both the plot and her role very well.

Nolan, I love you forever!

That's what I mean - They're *acting* like kids, rather than being kids. Just as when being all adult about it, they come out with things no kid would ever say and it sounds as fake as a... fake thing.

Watch Interstellar

Aw jeez, do I really have to???!!!

and you'll find out that kids can act.

I'm sure some can... but the rare few does not save the vast majority, and having me watch a film where half the adult cast cannot act isn't going to help!! 

reply

Did you watch Interstellar already?

Nolan, I love you forever!

reply

Nope.
It's pretty far back in my queue of things to watch, right now.

reply

Oh that's pity. You really don't appreciate my strong recommendation. =( You are not only losing to see a great child acting by incredible Mackenzie Foy, but also just a great film by itself.

Nolan, I love you forever!

reply

If it's that good, I'm sure it will wait its turn... if not, I'm not missing much.

reply

I'm not even sure how you might have not see Interstellar and still feel yourself into cinema.

Nolan, I love you forever!

reply

Aside from the idea of Matthew McConaughey annoying me as much as your impatience that I have priorities other than your child-actor wet-dream film?

Simple - I'm busy.
Interstellar got some really *beep* reviews when it came out and those of my friends who have seen it, whose opinions I value and who know my (apparently annoying) tendencies to pick films apart, universally suggest I skip it... hence it's on my rainy day list.

I'll get to it when I get to it. If you can't wait that long for an argument, find someone else to pester. It sounds like you already know the acting is *beep* in this, but have already written your agenda for arguing in response to the anticipated criticism...!!

reply

So have you watched it already?

Nolan, I love you forever!

reply

It's in the queue...

reply

Ohhh... You make Nolan upset. :(

Nolan, I love you forever!

reply

I watched Memento (including all the Special Features and Forwards version), Inception, The Prestige and all the Dark Knights... Is that not enough to be going on, while I get through the stack of other films that were here first?

reply

Oh, I'm glad to hear that! Thank you. You've made Nolan happy. =)

Nolan, I love you forever!

reply

I disagree Asa(Ender) and Armaris(Bean)where excellent the rest are decent

reply

Meh. No better or worse than most any other movies with a lot of child-actors.

reply

The main character was mopey from beginning to end and the other child actors were given nothing to work with.

reply

Actually this is one of the few movies that I don't find child actors annoying.

reply

You haven't watched Star Wars Phantom Menace

reply

I was about to say that! Ender's Game is one of the afew well child casted movies of 21. century, believe or not as a book fan I can say every child actor gave the spark but it's natural to see only Asa's because all of the movie based on him... and he did well

reply

blair-anne-whatever-whatever, cry me a river, will you? And don't ask me how I know that you are 12.

Ender was an extremely annoying punk, I wanted to put him in a coma when
he was with Ford in the shuttle, returning from Earth, and the little
bitch was like 'and don't block my email' - who the f is you, PUNK?!?!?

reply

I think Asa was really great. The others where fine. None made me cringe which I feel is a grand accomplish in a movie with so many child actors.

There is no such thing as too much time

reply

What?

Butterfield and Steinfeld were both pretty good in this.

reply

They all went to the Flared Nostril School of Acting.
