I like Jessica Chastain but her Accent is laughable

Why do they keep making her do these Awful accents?

reply

Her accent is good in the trailer.

reply

I hope you're Polish because if not you must be Deaf

reply

It's a good Polish accent, actually, and there are varying types of accents within Poland.

There is no one, definitive accent for that geographic area and hers is definitely adequate.

reply

Yes I agree. Poland was and still is a multi ethnic country. In addition to poles, there are ethnic Ukrainians, Germans and Russians. So it makes sense that there would be more than one "proper" polish accent and hers is good.

reply

Antonina was born in Russia and moved to Poland as an adult.

SamHenderson - Antonina was Polish and her both parents were Poles, her family name was Erdman - noble Polish name. She was only born in Russia.
I already explained it once to you. So I really do not get why you still repeat everywhere she was born in Russia. Is it so important for you, do you like manipulating or what?

reply

Sammy, You're the one manipulating here. Try Google. You can learn a lot. Perhaps understand that if a character was born and raised in another country they would then speak the language with an accent. Americans born and raised by an American family in a SEPARATE country will have an accent(from the area they grew up in/their first language) when they move to the US as an adult.
Again. Google. Antonina's childhood in Russia is all there.

Nice try but you're trolling.

reply

I am not trolling, have no reason. I do not need to use gogle to know facts. She was Polish with Polish parents, raised in Russia as a child. They spoke to her in Polish, but she learned also Russian.Poland was part of Russian empire then, so nothing special in your info.

reply

To Sam and Sammy -- you are talking about two different things, from different nationalist perspectives, I think. Americans consider themselves American despite the country of their parents' birth (and also call themselves 'American' if they were born elsewhere but raised in America). Poles consider themselves Poles regardless of where they might have been born. In any case, we're talking about Jessica Chastain's ACCENT here, no? Her accent, I believe, is a blend (effective or not, hard to tell) of Russian and Polish. She might be considered a Pole by the Polish, but because she spent formative years in Russia, she would speak with a Russian accent, or a Polish/Russian mix. She didn't consider herself Russian, but she probably spoke with a Russian accent. Okay?

reply

For Poles their language was very important those times regardless they lived because they lost independence and this was the one of ways to keep integrity. They wanted to keep their integrity, but she probably had her Russian accent at least when she was young. 😐

reply

Ok I may have misunderstood you. Sorry about that. I agree with you that Antonina was POLISH. Even though she was born and raised in Russia, she would have thought of herself as Polish.
I believe that Jessica played Antonina as Polish with Russian influences. And I think it's reflected in the accent.

reply

Yeaaaaaa the accent is spot on and incredibly accurate. Sorry...
