Finally saw this

It certainly deserved a better reception than it got. We didn't get a run in Toronto. But the film itself is entertaining. About half way through there is a stronger concentration of what I'd call Kasdan dialogue. But it might be the central premise that put people off - they want to find the dog. Not a complex story, but the relationship stuff was fine and that's the aspect I expect from Lawrence Kasdan. I could take or leave the story that holds it together.

Just thought to look up this film after news that Lawrence Kasdan is expected to write Episode VIII of Star Wars. He can still bring witty banter.

I don't know if it plays differently with an audience, but watching it alone Darling Companion is as good as most of the stuff out there now. Is it The Big Chill or Accidental Tourist? No, but it's fine for its own sake. Kasdan's comeback could have been something more crazy-funny like I Love You To Death, but looked at on its own terms Darling Companion is a decent flick. Certainly far better than the four-point-something rating it currently has here.

Agree. I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Very entertaining, story line good, I empathized with all the characters, and of course, the Dog!

I'm at the halfway point and turned it off last night when the psychic gypsy crops up. Roger Ebert gave this film one star. Personally, it's beyond comprehension how a film this bad attracted the cast it did. Beyond comprehension.

It got booed in Toronto didn't it?

Not booed by me. And we don't generally boo in Toronto. That's more of a Cannes thing.
