Wow-Great movie!

I never heard of this movie until I stumbled on it on Netflix. The movie kept me glued to the screen the whole time. I loved the ending, although the film is a semi-tear jerker. I love at somebody showed a different side to a bodybuilder's life. Not all bodybuilder's are arrogant, self-absorbed idiots! The mother in the film is very selfish, although maybe some people feel sorry for her, she obviously has a fear of being alone. But her son is 38...he's a man and deserves to live like one!

yeah, I really liked the movie too! it's simultaneously funny and sad.
I especially liked the happy end.

reply

Yep that was cool too.....I wonder why I never heard of this film before!

Bodybuilders are some of the nicest people I've ever known. They put up with a lot of crap from people like you who seem to think that by having a goal and working hard it makes them arrogant and self-centered. The reality is that bodybuilders have to deal with insecure people like you who feel threatened and have to tell themselves that the bodybuilders have personality flaws.

I would much rather go out for a quiet drink with a bodybuilder than you average alcohol-drinking moron with a boring life, hiding behind his insecurities and being negative towards others.

Who is this comment directed to?? I am a bodybuilder as well and didn't say anything insulting.

reply

I don't think you meant to be insulting, but that's the way it came off, because you wrote "Not all bodybuilder's are arrogant, self-absorbed idiots!" Writing "not all" in a group of people are something suggests that most are.

reply

Well, you sure seem arrogant and self-absorbed, so maybe that is why you blew the comment so out of proportion. It's ridiculous to think there are bodybuilders ... especially ones with that huge tattoo that act like 12 year old boys and let their mom's boss them around ... LOL! Good movie, but not very realistic.

reply

Oh look.... bruce somehow knows all the bodybuilders in the world and is apparently their spokesperson.

I do happen to know a bodybuilder who's personality is very similar to the character in this movie.

Just curious bruce.... after seeing some of your other posts I have to ask, why are you such a d!ck?

reply

Actually no, it's quite common. Again, it's irritating reading the clueless judgemental comments over and over. Greg Kovacs (RIP) comes to mind, he was literally a giant of a man, easily 400lbs offseason, but hopelessly shy, terrible around women, socially awkward, much like Dennis. The most famous example is of course Lou Ferrigno (the Hulk) who despite being 6'5 and enormous, was very insecure about his hearing disability and needed constant babysitting from his parents.

There are bodybuilders who get into the lifestyle because they like the drug lifestyle, but they usually don't get anywhere and end up in hospital or addicted to narcotics and painkillers. The quiet socially awkawrd ones like Dennis often do very well since the lifestyle requires a certain detachment from a normal social life.

Yes I agree, I really like the movie a lot. I see many bodybuilders at my gym..I'm not as huge as this guy of course...but many of them are very down to earth. The ones are now...I just ignore. But they did a good job in this movie!

reply

Just because you saw a bodybuilder in a movie does not mean there is a real bodybuilder that is a shy as a 12 year old boy ... I cannot believe you found this to be believable. I liked the movie, but about the last 1/3 was unrealistic. If you've ever been in a gym and heard men talk there is no way Dennis would be such a goodie two shoes.

reply

Clearly you go to a gym full of a bunch of d-bags. Not all gyms are like the creepy one you go to. Keep your non-bodybuilder comments to yourself, clearly you don't even go to a gym yourself!
