Tidy ghosts
Apparently the ghosts were very tidy. For a place that no one was allowed in for so long, it was wonderfully devoid of dust. Apparently they paid the electric bill too.

Dust is composed mostly of human skin and hair, so it would make some sense for there to not be much dust where no people lived.

Dust is mainly the constant bombardment of minor debris from space, that keep showering us. You abandon a house, and see how much dust will accumulate.
If your funny theory was correct, an area with no people should have almost no dust at all.
Ever come to a summer house or a vacation home and find it clean and with no dust because you haven't been there in a year? If you did, it's VERY well sealed off.
Obviously dust can't fall in through the roof or closed windows which is why open windows/doors and movement from people is a big factor in spreading it around inside.
