So damn glad Michael Gladis is gone.

He's performance was so damn stupid, worst part of the show. his dumb over-acting, over-sillyness. Anyone know why he left?

I don't always post on IMDB.com, but when I do I make sure I'm hammered.

Gladis was imitating Orson Welles in Touch of Evil, the aging burly cop with a strong presence. If you see the film, his performance makes much more sense.

I get it, film noir, fat, "has been" Wells towards the end of his career

but this guy's performance is dumb regardless of whatever nod to, or neat trivia you want to write it off as.

No, you absolutely don't get it.
1) It's "Welles", not "Wells"
2) Touch of Evil is regarded as one of his best films as a director, and the last one he made for an American studio, long before he was a fat, drunken mess (he had some padding in his jacket for the part at the time, just like Gladis in Eagleheart). It's far from an obscure movie. It's in imdb's Top 250 for instance, not just stuff for art house screenings.

The joke was that that Touch of Evil is very ambiguous with a corrupt and very smart cop who gets some results at a huge cost. Chief was however a caricature, a prejudiced buffoon who embraced dumb violence as the only way to solve stuff.
If you haven't seen Touch of Evil, fine. If you see it, you'll get why Gladis was funny in the show.
If you don't get the joke and want the material in a TV show to be adjusted to your references, it may be a better idea to watch a different show, because this was not an obscure performance.

I never even thought about Touch of Evil (though I have seen it)
I thought he was funny anyway and thought it was a shame he wasn't in the later series.

Even if you hate Uwe Boll, give Postal a try, be offended or entertained.

I've seen touch of evil in film studies class in college where I received a BFA in film years ago and don't hold a connection between it and this show.

Man, I thought he was the dude from full metal jacket haha. Yeah he was a bit too....cliche. He wasn't bad really, just took up too much time in a show that's only 10 minutes. Plus he's like 20 years younger than Chris which seemed a bit weird seeing as he's his superior.
