Dull film about subject matter which can't legally be examined in Japan

This film should not have been made. Obviously director Wakamatsu couldn't cover certain aspects of Mishima's life (his homosexuality) without threat of lawsuit from the two Mishima children who act as his character guardians. Even in the 1980's, Paul Schrader angered Mishima's widow by portraying certain incidents/themes in his movie (Paul Schrader's MISHIMA: A LIFE IN FOUR CHAPTERS (1986) covered some areas quite well already.)

The film has lots of dialogue (mainly centered on conservative Japanese nationalism), stock footage of war, mainly guys standing and sitting in various rooms, and soldiers trotting around and not training too impressively.

The bit in this new movie about Mishima's life was the most interesting aspect as his possibly-suffering, flustered wife.

Oh- and Arata Iura doesn't even resemble Yukio Mishima in face or form.

If you want a good biographical source, then bypass this movie and read The Life and Death of Yukio Mishima by Henry Scott Stokes.
