True story ending

This amazing story is based on a true story. Some of the details have been fictionalized, but I don't think that takes anything away from it. Check out this article if you want to learn about what happened after they reunited. (Sorry, couldn't figure out how to make it into a link! You'll have to "copy & paste".)

Thanks much for that link. I just streamed the movie on Netflix, and the movie was actually quite close to the real story. I really liked the movie.

Merci Beaucoup, FranceGirl for posting the link! I just watched the film and was anxious to find out more about this story. Wikipedia pretty much reiterated what the film told us, but the real story is quite different (and I think, more interesting) so thank you so much for posting it for us.

Kind of a bummer how it ended in real life. You know I was hoping for some kind of amazing pay off at the end in the movie...but it makes sense they ended it there, I suppose, since they wanted to leave us with more of a happy feeling. However...at the same time...I feel still I would have liked to see the ending play out. But I guess that's another "story" or part of the real story. I mean, life doesn't always turn out how we'd want. It'd be more about the....I've read other survivor stories too, and I remember another where they were a couple beforehand and stayed in touch during it (a prison camp)...but didn't stay together after, or couldn't...I believe they might have even both ended up killing themselves. I know at least the author did. Sooo that's way more bleak than this story, but, it still didn't turn out with a bow.
