Why the hell is Tomasz's mother played by a German actress?

First of all, I need to say that I have absolutely nothing against Susanne Lothar. I still remember her from Michael Haneke's original Funny Games from 1997 (and I love that movie) and she did her job well in Zagubiony czas (Remembrance), BUT... she played a Polish woman while she doesn't speak Polish. As a result her Polish parts were dubbed and it stood so much out that it was annoying. There are Polish actors in this movie in main roles (Mateusz Damięcki, Joanna Kulig, Mirosław Zbrojewicz...) so I really don't understand why some Polish actress in her 50s couldn't play that role. That way it would all look natural. And there are great actresses about 50 years old in Poland. I'm sure Krystyna Janda or even Agata Kulesza can speak German or could learn their German parts like Joanna Kulig (playing Magdalena Limanowska) did. The movie is already good but would be better that way.
I don't know if you guys even noticed that. Maybe for you everything looked OK (because nobody mensioned that before), but for a Polish native person it was really distracting.

But my biggest complaint is that this movie is so unknown. Even here, in Poland. Especially when it's based on a real story of Jerzy Bielecki who wrote a book about it.

I did not notice and she had a great face and played the role very well

There was one scene where i could tell it was dubbed, and I understand neither German nor Polish. She LOOKED Polish, and I don't even know what I mean by that. Good movie.
