No English subs that I can find yet.

And since this is a reboot, you should be fine. It seems to be a complete retelling of the story.

Asian Cult Cinema sells the uncut version with subtitles for $15.50.

Asian Cult Cinema sells TU for $15.50. amd it is the uncut version. I'm mixed on this version because of the graphic violence which after a while becomes not only tiresome but sometimes funny. If you take it as a black comedy such as Dr. Strangelove, The Loved One or even more recently Drag Me to Hell, then it can be seen as a comedy.

I'l turn 70 this month and some of my other favorites are The Haunting, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, the Val Lewton films. None of these, you will notice, need blood and guts to scare their audiences.

It just struck me that way at times as a black comedy. I still think Drag Me to Hell was the funniest movie I've seen in years. The other 5, considerably younger people were probsbly wondering why I was laughing so much. Black comedy isn't always for everyone, but Raimi appreciated my "kind words."

Death Becomes Her with Meryl Streep, Goldie Nawn and Bruce Willis as a wimp is another example.

It was probably the director's least comedic work yet, but it still had moments of black comedy throughout. Especially the climax where they literally throw everything against the wall can be seen as so excessive it borders on slapstick.

I love black comedy, and I love Japanese black comedy. But it's not the appropriate tone for a Tomie film. The original series was weird and creepy, which made more sense.

reply

well it made me laugh in quite a few places - mainly weird and fairly gory
