Remake of 1964 original?

Just wondering if this is to a remake of the Masaki Kobayashi classic or an entirely new venture? I was very suprised/excited when saw Takashis name alongside this title :)

It seems that Miike is getting fonder of the Jidai geki-Chanbara genre. Waiting to see "Thirteen assassins"!

It IS a remake of Masaki Kobayashi's 1962 (not 64) film.

And, you know what? It's shot in 3D! Ha ha.
(But seriously, I guess it means it will be much more action-oriented movie than the original.)

I know it sounds like a bad joke, but it's true.
