Shot for shot remake or not?

Hi

I have seen the original in stores for a reasonable price and want to know if Miike's version (which I have on Blu and really like) is a shot for shot remake of the original or if it interprets the story in its own way.

From a cursory glance at a trailer for the original, it seems like the shots are very similar, if not entirely the same in Miike's film...

Magic is so close to being nothing at all...Nothing at all

It's not. There are a few minor changes to the story as well.

It's not a shot for shot remake at all. As a big fan of the original film I was let down by the absense of several things from the original particularly the son biting off his tongue during the seppuku scene and that great pretty long duel between the father and the samurai who pushed for forcing his son to go through with the suicide (which is replaced by a short scene of the father defeating all three samurai he holds responsible)also the end of the film is a bit different in the original instead of smashing the armor he picks it up and carries it for a molment and begins comitting seppuku before being shot by several rifles instead of being stabbed to death I love Miike the film is quite good in it's own right but the original is such a great film you're going to be disappointed in the remake if you expect it to be at the same level
