Let's say Alcatraz got a 2nd season...

What would you guys do to help fix this show?

I would definitely fire at least half the writers on the show, bring in JJ Abrams and a team that he trusts to repair it. JJ needs to stay around to help repair the show. Not do like 2 episodes, and then leave it to everyone else. It would help if he assisted in writing and directing the episodes.

They need to change up the storyline. I don't really care about the criminal of the week. That's been done way too many times. I want more of a continuous storyline. Rebecca's character definitely needs some more depth (considering she lives), other than the fact that her grandfather killed her partner. I really didn't care about a partner that i saw for 20 seconds.

I would definitely work hard on putting some good mysteries in the show. I mean, the mysteries they had in season 1 were so lame. A hidden door with 3 locks??? Ooooh! I could care less!

I'd agree one of the main problems of the first season was that the main character wasn't all that well written. If they keep Rebecca, whoever writes the second season does need to put a lot more effort into the character.

I didn't really have a problem with the criminal of week format, since it was still early in the series. It will need to evolve past that format if it gets any additional seasons though.

besides, they only have 63 inmates and guards to catch, after a 4th season it would be over (50 in 3 seasons, arond 17 eps per season)

reply

what do you mean they only have 63 inmates and guards to catch??? There were 302 people who disappeared. It said so in the trailer. the number 63 referred to the year that they disappeared, 1963.

reply

oh, nevermind then lol, thought it was the same number (year/inmates)

reply

i dont think it will get a 2nd season

...coupled with the unbelievably crap excuse for the door remaining shut up until Hauser opened it; "Can't cut it open, or get around it", he says to Soto & Madsen. Wha..? Why not? Even in 1963 there was enough tech & excavating machinery to do whatever the hell they wanted with it, and in the 21st century, a mains-powered Dremel with enough little cutter discs and a boatload of patience could get through it. Pathetic plot contrivance.

There has to be something else to that door. Even as thick as it is, modern cutting tools could get in within a day. Or the third lock could be picked or a key made from an ultrasound of the lock (can that be done?) or something. There had to be some reason they couldn't open it, surely a throwaway line about one of the biggest mysteries on the show can't be all there is.
