One of the most overrated movies ever.

What the hell was this?
Queen makes great music. Nobody questions that. But why do most people consider this movie amazing? There are a couple good aspects:
1. Rami Malek was great. His version of Freddie Mercury was very, very poorly written, but Malek does a great job with what was given.
2. The live-aid concert was really well made. I liked the directing, and the shots were great. But that whole scene was not needed.

The whole movie was 60% Malek, 40% Queen music. Can anyone tell me why this movie is considered one of the best of the year. outside of fan-service?

I think the deal with this movie is a lot of folks realized they love Queen. It's the band and the music they love, not the film itself.

Yeah, that's what I thought. But also a lot of critics love the movie. It even won Best Drama at the Golden Globes over The Favourite and Roma, and won Best British Film at the BAFTA's, while You Were Never Really Here was nominated too. So what's the deal with critics? They should not fall for those kind of things right

Film is by the numbers biopic, doesn't make it a bad film to be fair and I came out of the film with a smile. I enjoyed it a ton. Rami Malek performance along with the music makes the film worth watching. It's nowhere near a Best Picture winner imo, I gave it a 8/10. Malek deserved his Best Actor award, he's excellent in this. I think having May and Taylor so heavily involved didn't help the film become a outright classic as they clearly didn't want a negative picture shown of the band or Freddie. It worked for them, the film made nearly 900 million worldwide, that for a non franchise film is amazing business.

It's not a classic but it's very good by the dots biopic. I hope Elton John's biopic coming up takes more risks and won't be afraid to show Elton's bad side.

Elton who? That ship sailed long ago.

reply

I'd rate it as good, not amazing. Malek really carried it for me with his performance.

It's better than La La Land...

Oh bull. It was a bloody good movie, dramatic and fun. Not truly great, of course, obviously if it hadn't had so much great music, exciting concert re-enactments, and a magnetic leading actor there wouldn't have been much there, but it worked on the dramatic, emotional, music buff, and fan levels, and by the end I was quite enthralled.

How many enthralling movies get made these days? Not very damn many.
