Did the spend the whole budget on those stupid teeth?

... no other explanation why they couldn't get contacts to match the color of Freddie's eyes.

They tried contacts but he had issues wearing them.

I'll ignore your other comment.

I watched Freddie and Queen at LiveAid recently, and I could barely get past those teeth. It was like a trainwreck and I could not avert my gaze. And I'm a pretty big fan.

I just spent a couple of minutes looking at photos of the real Freddy Mercury on Google Images, and the teeth on this actor are a ridiculous looking exaggeration, like in an SNL skit.

Rami Malek did a great job portraying Mercury, but he had a big handicap from the very beginning. He had to constantly struggle with the prosthetic teeth, and I agree the teeth were poorly designed and exaggerated. Mercury had his entire life to adjust to the teeth so it was natural for him. Malek had to constantly adjust his lips and face to accommodate a foreign object in his mouth. It ruined his acting in the closeups. A reasonable compromise would have been to have a prosthetic that only slightly protruded, visible but not so unmanageable.

The teeth look over exaggerated...like it's a joke....ruined the entire movie.
