Made Freddie too arrogant

He never came across that way in any interview, any publication whatsoever. Quite the opposite.

reply

He was. Like most rock stars

reply

Where's the evidence of that, exactly?

reply

He’s the front man of a rock band

reply

In other words, you don't have any, like I thought. Just stating the stereotype, which again, is contrary to all interviews and publications.

reply

Post an interview that you’re talking about

reply

Go to literally any interview on Youtube. If you find once where he's the arrogant douche displayed in the film, feel free to post it.

reply

Post one to support your point

reply

Literally every video on Youtube supports my point. Pick one.

reply

It’s a bad thing. Every great rock band ever has an egotistical flamboyant kiss my ass lead singer. That’s what made them great and interesting

reply

Maul: I've never seen Mercury come across arrogant in any interview or publication.
Bucky: Yeah, but he was.
Maul: By what evidence?
Bucky: Cause he fronts a rock band.
Maul: So you're just stating a stereotype
Bucky: Show me proof that I'm not.
Maul: Watch any video of him
Bucky: Nah, you post one here

Me: WTF Bucky, I don't think that's how it works. What an annoying exchange there.

reply

Both of them are making claims they refuse to back up, both are at fault.

reply

I can see your point...except Maul is speaking what is true. Watch literally any video of Mercury...he was who he was.
Bucky is the one disputing reality, so seems like the onus would be on him to refute it.

The movie wasn't correct...and its well known that it wasn't correct in many other ways, often times having just made up stuff for the sake of formula/drama or whatever.
This is just another example of that and reality should be beyond dispute, IMO.

reply

I dont dispute whether his claim is true or not. What i am saying is that Mail refuses to back it up when required to do so. He is not showing the proof to back his claim either, which would be easy according to him (if its in every video).

reply

Here you go, just Googled "Freddy Mercury interview", this was first on the list. Shows a pretty dang mellow, down to earth guy. If this is a pretty good indicator of his normal demeanor, then yeah, looks like you're absolutely right.
I wonder why they did that...made him all flamboyantly fantastic like they did. Weird.

Arrogant: characterized by or proceeding from arrogance, or a sense of superiority, self-importance, or entitlement.

Arrogance: Offensive display of superiority or self-importance; overbearing pride.

You realize that I was saying he wasn't arrogant in reality, right? Do you know how to read, sir?

reply

He was anything but arrogant. How could he be? He was the real deal.

PS I do know how to read, after a fashion, which is why I deleted my post—even before seeing your response—and made this one instead. Please accept my apologies.

reply

Again, do you know how to read, sir? I was saying he WASN'T arrogant in reality. Right there. In my post. Seriously, is there something wrong with your brain?

reply

Alright.

reply

Thank you.

reply

He was arrogant, as seen on this interview https://youtu.be/8wk9hPubD1Q

reply

"I love my job, but hate talking to people like you" ahahah come on guys every great artist is kinda socially awkward, that's the genius part of it

love freddie

reply

Not arrogant here, just honest

reply

His success went to his head at times, according to the movie. Especially when dealing with the other band members.

Probably had something to do with all the drugs he was doing as well.

reply

Some of his arrogance came across to me as sort of tongue in cheek... humorous even....like he was playing around with his own flamboyant image..
In reality I think he had great confidence in his musical talent but not much else.

reply

I agree, Roxie. Let’s face it: the vast majority of people who go into show business as performers (as opposed to, say, writers or grips or casting agents or producers) feel hollow inside and crave attention and approval. I bet the ones who succeed at the highest levels are those who are usually the most desperately hollow, in addition to having (usually) outrageous talent and luck. I am not putting these people down, I am sympathizing with them. You don’t find this phenomenon just in entertainment. I see it every day in bodybuilding and martial arts. I saw it years ago in modeling. We humans will do literally anything to feel loved; it’s a primal human need. The problem is, if you feel hollow on the inside but have the talent to win massive adulation, like Freddy and Queen did, you implode from the adulation, e.g., Marilyn, Elvis—The very first one-name superstars.

reply

Not only arrogant, but an all around unpleasant asshole

reply

What some people term as "arrogant", other people call "Assertive and strong", because to succeed and survive in the music industry, you have to be those things. The people who call any rock star arrogant or "bitchy", most of the time do so, because said artist is standing up for himself and his ideas on how further his career. Have there never been arrogant a$$hole$ in the music industry? Of course there are, but I don't think that a lot of them are. I have met a few, and who I have met were nice people.

reply

You have to laugh at post...interviews are promotional material. Why would a person who may be arrogant in real life act arrogant in an interview, and risk losing fame?

You cannot judge a person or think you know them by watching interviews. That's the face they present to the public, because they want people to like them and buy their material.

reply

I agree. The pleasant, charming, flirty interviews are a performance.

Almost everyone has hothead moments. I doubt Brian May would have been okay with the script having him tell Freddie he was being a prick if that had no air of reality to it. This was just as May abruptly left the dinner with his wife.
