I was struck by the fact that there's only ONE Freddy Mercury

May sound stupid, and I've only seen clips. I'm operating under the assumption that they're going to put their best stuff in the clips. But doggone it, if you were watching Live Aid as I was back in the day, and hadn't really thought much of Freddie Mercury or Queen before seeing his set, you would have realized you'd seen one of the greatest rock performers of all time. Period. As Elton John said at the time, "No one is going to want to go on after that!"

And it's a grim business being handed a role where you have to replicate that.

All of the clips I've seen are a pale comparison to the real thing.

BTW, every Hollywood version of a true story is going to be watered down or changed so much its own mother couldn't recognize it. Don't go to a movie for facts, you won't get them.
