Music still great, Freddie's voice eternal, but the film was 'lite'?
I'm long an admirer of Queen's brilliance technically and musically, and this film really impressed me. But I felt that it needed a longer, deeper and perhaps darker biopic, not this with frills etc.
It merely touched upon Mercury's complex and upsetting issues, and the film- despite the stunning lead performance- felt lighthearted with the band's bland characters/personalities?
Maybe former band members May and Taylor were 'too close' to the topic they advised about- as Baron Sacha Cohen (aka Borat and Ali G) who was the original 'Freddie', said?
