My god, their music sucked
Their songs sound like a national anthem, absolutely awful.

shareI like a lot of it. However, I really don't like Bohemian Rhapsody. Easily one of the most overrated songs of all time.
shareTo be fair to the OP, I sort of get where they're coming from (on occasion) but not whole-heartedly agree.
My interest in 'Queen' varies from time to time. Sometimes, I like their music (and totally get what they're about) but most times I can concede that they're overblown (over-praised) pompous and tacky.
To me they transcend 'actual' music....and are very much an occasional acquired throwaway group (to me)....which I guess says more about my mood-swings, than it does their music (and no, I'm not just talking about their 'anthem' tracks either) I suppose it's just over-exposure (on their behalf) which leads to my love/hate relationship of/with them? Clearly there's no denying how great a group they were (but my interest in them is a 'short-term-lease' only) Most times of the year (or decade) I too find them a bit pointless, tacky or irrelevant, also (yet I ocassionly turn to them for aural comfort)
Yet this is the only musical group, I react to in this way (I weather all other storms with all other groups....except 'Queen')

shareYep, a typical response of someone who has only heard a handful of the hits and thinks that's all the band were about.
There is some great stuff on the early albums like Black Queen, Liar, Keep Yourself Alive, Now I'm Here, Brighton Rock, Death On Two Legs, Prophets Song, 39...some very interesting and diverse stuff.
I lost them after News Of The World, output after that was patchy. And I was never a fan of the anthemic, singalong stuff like WWRY and WATC. They seemed to be overplayed and used at sports events, on TV, radio etc.
And a few of their songs have been used for TV adverts. One in particular in the UK for a kitchen cleaner called Flash is very annoying.
A cruise line used "You're my best friend" quite a bit for an ad here in the USA.
No band was better for their first 4 albums. I like Jazz quite a bit and I like most of the 80s stuff though it is not as good as what they did in the 70s.
There are many Queen songs that most people have not heard that are outstanding like Melancholy blues on News of the world or Let me entertain you on Jazz.

I’m mostly a pop fan but damn I think Queen is amazing, one of the greatest bands with amazing music which appeals to any music fan.
My other favorite Rock Band is Bon Jovi.
