It is all an act

He isn't mentally ill, he lies to make money.

It doesn't seem like he is a happy person with a happy life, this story is all he has. It only makes sense to run with it. I'm guessing the only reason it took this long is because he was still afraid of George until his death. For the record I don't believe anything he said regarding any paranormal activity nor do I believe Amityville was ever haunted.

I'm a believer. All three of the kids maintain their stories to this day. It's one thing for the parents to cook up a story. It's something else to convince three kids to continue lying for the next 40 years, particularly when they don't even like you.

The only person they didn't like was George and he wasn't the only one to "experience" things in the house. They loved their mother very much so your argument is totally moot.

Let me say that I have an open mind with the paranormal but my qualms lie with Daniel and his story rather than the rest of the family. Plus kids are susceptible and may not even realise they are lying (if the story is bogus), rather just continuing the legacy that their parents convinced them was real through instilled fear and making connections that are non-related.

I'm sorry but having an abusive father is just not an excuse. I know many people who have suffered at the hands of parents and legal guardians but they move on with their life by focusing on the positives.

The best thing he could have done is grown up and become a successful, loving person supporting people who had been in similar situations. I can understand, on some level, how damaging such experiences are but growing up to be a resentful, narcissistic middle aged man who can't even hold a polite conversation is the least commendable outcome.

All this said my belief remains that he acts up on camera to make a more interesting story and now that George is dead he can fully indulge his selfish urge for attention. I also have a hard time believing a 7 year old can recount as much detail as he does, down to specific conversations he had with his mother using vocabulary that a 7 year old just wouldn't use. I may be totally mistaken but that really is the impression I got from this guy, seemed like he really wasn't genuine at all and just wanted a chance to cash in on the dubious story his parents believed happened to them.

For the record I have an open mind with the paranormal and have read / watched a lot of articles / programs about the Amityville case, not trying to say that I'm some kind of professional but I feel that I have enough knowledge to make such bold claims.

That's great but we are all human beings and different things effect us all differently. I don't think anyone sits there and purposely wants to live a bitter life.
