Completely unlikeable person

It was very hard to get through this movie, and I almost turned it off several times (and really should have). Danny comes across as such an unlikeable, self-absorbed, angry douchebag that I couldn't sympathize with him at all, even though his chaotic childhood should warrant sympathy. His disrespect towards his therapist at the beginning and his anger towards the interviewer at the end when he was asked if he'd submit to taking a lie detector test reveals why he's alone in life. His step-father was certainly an abusive jerk, but Danny has all the signs of an anti-social personality himself. In the end, the question wasn't whether or not I believe Danny experienced possession or the paranormal--but why anyone should care.

Another quack practicing psychology without a license.

They discussed that issue before the movie was made. Daniel doesn't trust lie detector tests, just like many people in society don't. But they had made a previous agreement that testing was off limits. You didn't follow up to investigate that part of the story. The interviewer didn't respect that, which is why Daniel understandably got unset.

The therapist hadn't spent enough time with Daniel to be making the assumptions that were made. The comments made by the therapist were inappropriate and assumptive.

Even Christopher Lutz has stated the house was haunted even though the movie was a fiction version.

I agree. He was way to hostile to the interviewer and crew to be sympathetic to. The way he acted towards the fact that two of the crew members being agnostic spoke volumes.

It's been awhile but I believe at one point he said he would take one then got all pissy about it. He really had nothing to lose by taking one. If he passed all the believers would say "See! It really happened" and if he failed all the believers would say ""See, those lie detectors aren't accurate.".

The people who believe in this hoax will never give up on it no matter what. The fact that nothing "supernatural" has happened to ANYONE since the Lutz left should speak volumes to everyone but alas it does not.

Well, a good reporter should ask difficult questions, especially about sensitive matters. That's the point of doing a documentary.

One of the most annoying, unlikable personalities I've ever watched in any documentary, ever. I came to the message boards just to see if anyone else was repulsed by this douche. This tool LOVES to hear himself talk and loves this attention. I would quit a job if this dude was in a position over me. What a horrible personality. I might not make it all the way through this.

I doubt George Lutz was half as evil as Danny claimed. We're talking about a publicity seeker here.
Danny was probably an unruly kid who hated discipline judging by his obnoxious personality.

Bruce lee was real. Batman was never real.

This is what I believe. He certainly isn't a sympathetic person. I watched and couldn't get past the fact he was such a jerk. Now that George is dead, I think he wants all the attention himself. I think he also has narcissistic tendencies caused by George's overbearing personality. Danny clearly has parental issues. He idolizes his mother and biological father, but has little care for George, but he wants to be able to use George to further his own aims. Namely the whole "haunting" issue. Thing I'd like to know is where are the people to corroborate what he's saying, namely the priest, and others. I think once George found out about the DeFeo murders he decided from that point to use it to his advantage.

I remember reading the Jay Anson book and even bought Hans Holzer's to find out more about the DeFeo murders and I have had a harder time each time this case comes up in believing anything any of the principles have to say on it. Had George and Kathy not "given in" to the publicity of it and not allowed the film with Brolin and Kidder to become so convoluted, then I think I could have remained a bit of a believer. But the whole story just reeks. Seeing this just made me feel that it was all made up and Danny is doing nothing for himself by believing it all happened. If he would just come out and admit it was all a lie, then I think I could feel some modicum of empathy for him.

Sometimes my ruminations are too confusing for someone not inside my head. -Anon
