Nods and References in LIVID

Hi there, I just left a reference I saw on your blog. Thanks for the article, although I was certain Suspiria was an influence, I did not catch the direct reference. I didn't catch the Ring ref either, I do think you are correct on that one.

I'd love to hear a director's commentary, I imagine there are many more.

Last thing - I'm pretty sure the recent Insidious 2 drew some inspiration from Livid.

Loved the movie (Livid that is, Insidious 2 was meh)

Oh and I just thought of another one, the breathing mechanism and look of the aged dance instructor is reminiscent of the main baddie at the end of House of 1000 corpses. I forget the characters name, but I think it's likely a reference, they thank Rob Zombie as well.

Pretty sure there were some Jean Rollin refs in there, it had his dreamlike quality and it ended with two women not saying a word staring at the sea, which I'm pretty sure is an image in several of Rollin's fims.

Other possible inspirations:

Saw (the room with no doors where the man is killed by the ballerinas is similar to the main room in the first Saw)

Mirrors (same scene, there are moments like this a few times in Mirrors)

The Orphanage - They both have children who are tortured souls and the climax occurs at a similar beach and in both films souls are being released (in a manner of speaking)

House of Voices - French ghost story featuring a woman who works at a haunted dance school.

Silence of the Lambs - Been awhile since I've seen it, but I think they remove moth cocoons from inside the victims corpses.
